The 64th edition of the EICMA International Milan Motorbike Show started in style on Tuesday and will entertain motorbike fans and industry visitors until Sunday. The 2006 show fill 48,500 square metres, with 1000 exhibitors coming from 32 different countries to fill the new Milan/Rho exhibition centre. Described as the biggest motorbike show in the world, the Milan show is set to become an annual event with a probable reunification with the bicycle show.
The six days of the show will offer a great show and present all the latest bikes and products. The first two days are reserved for trade visitors with the doors open to the public from Thursday and women entering for free on Friday.
Naturally the president of the Italian Association of Motorbike and Accessory Manufactures Guidalberto Guidi was hugely satisfied and hopes to beat all the record thanks to the new products scheduled to be presented by Italian and international companies and because of the spectacular ‘Motolive’ outdoor competition that will cover 60.000 square metres.
Pierluigi Bersani, the Italian Minister for Economic Development gave the motorbike industry a clear message at the official opening of the 2006 EICMA Motorbike show, with the Italian budget an important topic (“We expect the government to produce a balanced and non-penalising budget for our companies, President Guidi said).
“We hope to launch the government plan for energy efficiency at the start of 2007 and transport will have a key role,” Bersani said.
“We believe the environment can be a new industrial frontier because evolution is about knowing how to favour every kind of transport that reduces consumption and emissions. Motorbikes have a lot of cards to play in this area and I believe the Italian motorbike industry will overcome the problems of globalisation and once again show its creativity.”
The governor of the Lombardy region - Roberto Formigoni - also talked about the same subject: (“The Italian motorbike industry has to show its vitality by intensifying the production of environmentally friendly vehicles"), with support from Edoardo Croci, the Milan transport councillor, Milan Fiera President Michele Perini and Luigi Roth of the Milan Fiera Foundation.
As ever the Milan show also hosted several collateral events with the Ambrosetti supported ANCMA Forum on brand value and development yet again capturing huge interest. The Forum was a debate on the different philosophies of leading business people. There were those who believe in industry and hard work and those who are convinced that brand and marketing are the keys to success. The contributions of several key figures of the Italian motorbike market were really appreciated, especially those of Federico Minoli (Ducati), Alberto Bombassei (Brembo) and Claudio Castiglioni (MV Agusta).
