Airwaves Ducati finished first and second in a perfect qualifying session at Cadwell Park today. Leon Haslam, who has started from the front row of every race so far this season, set the quickest ever lap of Cadwell Park, 1:26.392, to get pole position. Lavilla overcame yesterday’s problems to take 2nd place on the grid with a time of 1:26.683.

In final practice this morning Leon was again the quickest finishing top with a time of 1:27.063. Greg finished 3rd with a time of 1:27.699. Leon looked to be the one to beat going into qualifying but both riders were confident of lapping fast having tested here in June.

Due to an accident in a previous race qualifying was reduced to 40 minutes. This resulted in fast and furious action from the outset. Leon and Greg set the pace early, swapping the lead between them and consistently reducing their lap times until Leon eventually broke the 1 minute 27 barrier mid way through the session. Greg quickly followed suit and the session finished with only the Airwaves Ducati riders recording sub 1 minute 27 laps.

Having completed his qualifying laps Leon took the opportunity to test out his Dunlop race tyre for the final 5 minutes of the qualifying session setting a time of 1:27.208. He was delighted with his performance saying, “I’m over the moon. I have done the quickest time ever round here today and I was the quickest with both my race and qualifying tyres; I am really pleased. I am feeling great for the race tomorrow and it is even better that I am on pole with all the Honda’s on the second row. It will be a good race and I think the Airwaves Ducati team are going to perform very well.”

Gregorio Lavilla said, “This morning we were behind schedule because of some problems that we had yesterday with the bike, but this afternoon everything worked well and now I am really confident for the race.”

Round 11 of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship is tomorrow, Monday 28th August 2006.
