Team Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra rider Xavier Simeon suffered a huge disappointment in the final round of this years Superstock 1000 FIM Cup, when a gearbox problem caused him to pull out of the race after just one lap. Before the race, Xavi was ready to go all-out for a win in the 12-lapper and keep his title hopes alive.
But on the first lap, he knew there was a problem and had to pull in. Ayrton Badovini (MV) won todays race, with Claudio Corti (Yamaha) second. Ducati rider Niccolo Canepas third place today was enough to give him the title - by just four points.
Xavi - DNF
I am bitterly disappointed with how things worked out today. I knew it was going to be a difficult job winning the race today, but I was determined to do well here and make the others fight. I knew something was wrong almost straightaway, because the gearbox locked up for a bit. I had no choice but to pull into the pits. I dont know what to say, except that i didnt want the season to end this way.
