Team Virgin Mobile Yamaha are hoping the Northamptonshire circuit will bring them their best set of results this season for the penultimate round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Silverstone this weekend. The 2.213 mile Silverstone circuit holds happy memories for lead rider 21 year old Tommy Hill who was on pole position as a wildcard in the World Superbike Championship earlier this year.
Tommy Hill:"It would be great to repeat my performance in the World Superbike Championship but I am not taking anything for granted. Our domestic series is reaching its climax and everyone wants to win more than ever. I go well here and it would be great to get back on that podium with only one more round left after this one."
Currently eighth in the British Superbike Championship, Hill continues to inspire rookie Team Mate Billy McConnell. Last year's Virgin Mobile Cup champion Billy is 18th on Championship points and having a flying start to his Superbike career. But Aussie McConnell would just love to get that missing piece of the jigsaw: "If I could get on the podium once this year it would be a dream come true. It has been a steep learning curve for me so far and I am pleased overall with how it's gone. I can't believe there are only two rounds left of this season! Silverstone is one of my favourite circuits, and I hope this can be my weekend."
Team Manager, Rob McElnea:"Both Tommy and Billy are feeling confident at the moment and the Yamaha YZF-R1 is flying! We know we are competitive with Tommy and can run with the front guys now. We are all expecting the Team to get some good points and the results we deserve this weekend."
Superbike racing starts at 1310 on Sunday, September 17th, at the 12th round of the Championship at Silverstone in Northamptonshire. It will be shown on ITV1 at 1435 and on Sky Sports 2 at 2300.
