Virgin Mobile Yamaha is pleased to announce the signing of James Haydon to complete its 2007 British Superbike rider line-up. James Haydon returns to the team after a two-year absence. Haydon, 32, is relishing the opportunity to reacquaint himself with the Virgin Mobile Yamaha team, and reignite a winning relationship, most recently at Knockhill when he last rode for the team in 2004. This victory capped off a remarkable year for Haydon and Yamaha, as Haydon finished in 8th position after joining the championship at the mid-point of the season.
Rob McElnea, Team Owner: “The decision to sign James was fairly easy for me. He’s obviously a vastly experienced rider who we have worked very well with in the past. He is ultimately professional and has one of the best work ethics in the paddock. James will prove to be a valuable member of the team and support Tommy in terms of both bike development and friendly rivalry on the racetrack.”
James Haydon: “It’s great to be back with Yamaha again. I enjoyed a couple of great seasons with Virgin Yamaha in the past and have been on the top step of the podium with them. I know the team really well and am looking forward to rewarding their hard work with some strong performances over the coming season.”
Tommy Hill: “It will be great to have James riding with me, he is a very welcome addition to the team. He has so much experience and knowledge that he can pass on. I look forward to testing with him early in the New Year, we can’t wait to get hold of our new bikes and put them through their paces.”
Virgin Mobile Yamaha will embark on a busy schedule of testing the latest Yamaha YZF R1 early in the New Year. 2006 Virgin Mobile Cup winner, Tom Grant, has elected to contest the British Supersport Championship for Yamaha in 2007. An announcement will be made by Virgin Mobile Yamaha, with further details of Tom’s ride in due course.
