Today's Supersport race will start with two Yamahas on the front row thanks to Broc Parkes and Massimo Roccoli who are third and fourth respectively. The weather stayed dry but cool for today's second qualifying session after mixed conditions yesterday. Yamaha World Supersport Team rider Broc Parkes made progress on finding a good set up in this morning's practice and ran in the top three for the duration of the session. Broc then went on to secure his third qualifying position, knocking almost 0.4 seconds off his best time in the process.
Massimo Roccoli crashed in this morning's practice session but was uninjured and finished in sixth place. The Yamaha Team Italia rider found a good set up for qualifying and was able to take a second off his best time from yesterday to come in 0.03 seconds behind Parkes in fourth.
Anthony West struggled to find the setting that suited his riding style and the circuit during today's two sessions. He managed to take almost a second off his best time from yesterday and qualified in 16th. The young Australian has found the circuit very bumpy and unlike anything he has ridden for a long time.
Rain and lower temperatures are forecast for tomorrow's race.
Broc Parkes (3rd - 1'27.761 - Yamaha World Supersport Team)"I am happy to be on the front row. We changed some of the set up at the start of this afternoon's qualifying session and it didn't work out too well so we went back to what we had this morning. Unfortunately it was a bit late in the qualifying session and I didn't have enough time to grab a higher qualifying position. But third is good. If it rains tomorrow, which is likely, it's going to be new for all of us so it could be a very interesting day!"
Massimo Roccoli (4th - 1'27.793 - Yamaha Team Italia)"I am very happy with my result today. I am not considering the riders in first and second place as they are so far ahead of me in the championship. My dry set up is perfect and I hope it doesn't rain tomorrow. This is my first front row start of the season. It is much needed and I hope I can make the most of it."
Anthony West
Anthony West (16th - 1'28.524 - Yamaha World Supersport Team)"Today has been very frustrating for me as I had hoped to make a lot more progress with the set up than I have. I can't ride the bike the way I want to, it is like we are fighting each other. We need to see what adjustments we can make overnight to find a good set up for either wet or dry conditions. It is frustrating as I feel I should be higher on the grid, especially after the progress I made at Monza."
