Kawasaki Racing Team’s Tanel Leok and Billy Mackenzie are rapidly picking up their speed on the 2007 KX450F-SRs and are now wading through a pre-season ‘dialling-in’ period that includes back-to-back race appearances in France and the United Kingdom. The Estonian and Briton headed to Valance this weekend in southern-central France for their second International event inside two weeks and after having completed an intensive official photoshoot involving all three Team Green crews.
Leok enters this season as arguably the lead rider after giving the KX its first podium results in the 2006 World Championship and finishing 5th overall. The 21 year old claimed a runner-up position in the second of three heats at Mantova in Italy a fortnight ago and looked sharp on the compact French mud setting a lap-time to place 2nd and 6th in the two free practice periods on Saturday.
Mackenzie is coming back to speed after breaking his collarbone at the end of January and successfully worked on suspension settings during a relentless test period after Mantova. The Scot has been in southern Europe for two weeks now and will head back to Belgium next week for a fitness test before returning to his native Edinburgh. The 22 year old was an encouraging 6th and 10th in his Saturday efforts.
After their French test this weekend KRT will next face the dark and demanding sand of Hawkstone Park on March 4th for another step in their preparation for the 2007 MX1 World Championship that begins in Holland on April 1st.
