German Dominic Lammert led the Suzuki GSX-R Cup charge in first qualifying at Assen today, even pipping veteran racer ( and ‘wild card’ for this event) Fabrizio Pirovano in the process. Lammert’s lap of 1:46.040 was nearly seven tenths of a second ahead of Pirovano, with Gabor Rizmayer third.
LammertThis is a good start to the weekend and I’m very happy to be in front of the ‘old man’ - Pirovano! I hope I can stay in front of him all weekend now. Assen is not so hard to learn, but it’s quite hard to shave of those last tenths of a second when you are after a quick lap. Today the track felt dirty and slippery, probably because of all the construction work nearby and it was very easy to have some slides. The weather forecast for the weekend is good, and I’m really looking forward to mixing it with the Suzuki Cup regulars and the famous Pirovano. I’m sure he’ll be a tough one to beat on Sunday, but I’m going to do my best.
Conditions: Dry, sunny
