Derbyshire based K-Tech celebrated their first ever USA superbike win at the first round of the AMA Pro road racing championship last week at the legendary Daytona Raceway in Florida.
Probably one of the fastest race tracks in the world where riders are touching nearly 200mph on the famous banking, Aaron Yates from the Jordan Suzuki Motorsport team using the K-Tech 20DDS front fork cartridges and the new 35DDS rear shock set the fastest time in the superbike qualifying to take a first ever superbike pole position for the Jordan Suzuki Motorsport team. Team mate National Guard / Jordan Suzuki rider Jake Zemke also using the K-Tech product started on the second row of the grid in fourth position.
In a closely fought first race where the first four riders we covered by 0.300 seconds it was Jake Zemke who took the first ever superbike race win for the team with Aaron Yates finishing fourth, this was also a first race win for K-Tech products in an AMA superbike race. With the second race the following day it was a similar result with Zemke again taking the closely fought win by 0.009 of a second from Tommy Hayden with Aaron Yates just 0.081 seconds behind in fourth place giving the team there second superbike race win in the same event.
It was a fantastic result for K-Tech as it was the first time the new 35DDS shocks had ever been used in race conditions with them only being completed on the Friday before the event.
In the Daytona 200 Sports Bike class Steve Rapp, using the K-Tech 20DDS front fork cartridges on the Latus Racing 848 Ducati was never out of top three during all of the practice and qualifying sessions but a crash in one of the qualifying sessions put the team under a great deal pressure to rebuild the bike ready for the race, which ended in a fantastic third place position for the team and the first time for a Ducati 848 on a Daytona 200 mile podium. P J Jacobsen also using K-Tech front fork and shock products qualified 13th on the Celtic racing GSXR600 but had an accident on the first lap of the race when a rider went down in front of him which ended in him suffering concussion and taking no further part in the race.
