Press Release: One of the greatest eras of motorcycle racing can now be enjoyed on DVD for the very first time.
Action-packed footage, interviews with the stars and round-by-round coverage delivers the most comprehensive reviews of a decade of Grand Prix competition.
Duke is delighted to be able to bring fans complete Official Reviews of every season from 1992 right through to 2001 on DVD. Not only will collectors be able to replace their old VHS tapes, but the arrival of these classic years on DVD will bring the era to a whole new generation of fans.
In February Official Reviews of 1992 to 1996 are released. In March the reviews of 1997 to 2001 will be released, completing the collection.
This collection covers an era of true motorcycle legends, from Wayne Rainey and Mick Doohan through to Max Biaggi and Valentino Rossi. We also trace the development of the sport as the new identity of MotoGP emerges and the thundering 500cc machines are phased out.
Every Official Review delivers an edge-of-the-seat thrill ride through an entire season, as greats like Kevin Schwantz, Alex Criville, Loris Capirossi, Luca Cadalora and so many more. There are so many highlights to experience, not least the dominance of Doohan and the emergence of Rossi, including his first World Championship in the premier class. However, these DVDs aren’t just about the record-breaking performances – they are about the stunning race action seen round-after-round – for example the final race of 1995, which saw a three-way, race-long battle which finished with the top three split by just 0.623 seconds! All the highs are here, but so, too, are the lows. The moment in 1993 when one of the greatest ever – Rainey – had his career cut tragically short is remembered. The Official Review of that year includes an exclusive interview with the three-times World Champion just weeks after his life-changing crash, and the 1994 review includes several contributions from Rainey as he starts a new life in racing.
Looking at the record books, and seeing the Doohan domination which followed the Rainey-era, it would be easy to assume there was no competition in 500cc racing in the 1990s – but these dramatic season reviews shows nothing could be further from the truth. In 1996 Honda teammates Doohan and Criville shared the podium on 10 occasions in 11 races, finishing first and second an incredible eight times! The Australian maestro was pushed every step of the way by stars like Criville and Daryl Beattie, and that produced some genuine elbow-to-elbow action – all captured here to be relived once again.
