Vemar helmets are starting 2006 in confident mood, with a new range, a new UK distributor and a new champion. Marc Coma won this year’s Paris Dakar protected by a Vemar helmet, while The Key Collection has added Vemar to its portfolio, which already includes leading international brands like Bell, Prexport and Weise. Founded in 1986 in Tuscany, Vemar initially made helmets for other brands such as Shark, which led them to focus on technological development and product quality rather than superficial marketing gimmicks. Vemar has the capacity to produce 4,600 helmets per day, which is a mark of just how far they have come in the last 20 years.
At the top of the range is the VSREV race helmet, as worn by Anthony West in MotoGP, which features a lightweight carbon/aramidic fibre/fibreglass shell with two external shell sizes for an accurate fit. Its compact design helps to minimise wind resistance and it also features a quick-release visor with an FIA inspired ‘safety catch’ to prevent it popping off in a crash situation.
Inside is a removable and washable lining treated with Antimicrobial Sanitized Protection to ensure it stays fresh. To ensure that the fit is maintained, the cheek pads are manufactured from memory foam that, unlike traditional foam padding, retains its shape, even after extended use.
The Vemar VSREV is available in sizes XS – XL priced at £189.99. Colour options include West and Lanuzzo replicas, Italian flag and the Japan graphic in red and blue.
