After an extremely wet qualifying session which saw nine riders come off, windy and overcast conditions saw a fast start by everyone, which left Rossi leading with Pedrosa hot on his heels on the opening lap.

De Puniet lost the bike (thankfully uninjured) on one of the final corners of the first lap due, perhaps, to a cold tyre - a real pity for the LCR Honda which has yet to shine.

The Sachsenring circuit provided some great action over the 2.8 miles track (2nd shortest on the MotoGP calendar to Laguna Seca).

On the 6th lap, Stoner, recently diagnosed with mild Aneamia, finally passed Rossi leaving Pedrosa in third place.

With ten laps to go, the four GP leaders (Rossi, Stoner, Lorenzo & Pedrosa) were far ahead of the rest of the field.
Shortly afterwards, the first three pulled out a gap leaving Pedrosa slightly behind.

14th lap saw the sun came out, which must have inspired the Fiat riders as they took the lead (Rossi, Lorenzo) by the half way point.

With five laps remaining, the same four were at the front, although the order had changed - Lorenzo & Rossi with Pedrosa changing places with the ill Australian rider in fourth place who was being left behind.

On the 28th lap of 30, Rossi re-took the lead from his Majorcan team mate, while the two opened a sizeable gap from Pedrosa.

Despite some hard trying by Jorge, Vale managed to just keep the lead with a celebtratory one wheel at the chequered flag!
