Press release:Chris Walker stormed to the front row of the grid for the 7th round of the ViSK British Superbike Championship today at Mallory Park in Leicestershire.
Back to his battling best Walker on the Motorpoint Hendersons Yamaha R1 came to within 2 tenths of his first pole position of the season finishing in 3rd alongside Tommy Hill Worx Suzuki and Leon Camier Airwaves Yamaha.
Chris Walker Motorpoint Hendersons Yamaha 3rd position 56.22 sec:
"We came here knowing we needed a strong qualifying position as this track is so hard to overtake, so the front row is mega! The bike is working well, we chipped away with settings and I feel we have a good race package, I want to try and stay out of trouble in the early laps and see how we look. 30 laps is a serious work out around here with lapped riders playing a part in the latter stages."
Graeme Gowland on the Motorpoint Hendersons Yamaha R1 continued to impress the establishment with his progress as series ‘Rookie' and is now within striking distance of some of the big names of UK Superbike racing.
His learning curve has been vertical and he has relished the mental and physical level he has had to reach to be competitive in the fastest and most respected domestic Superbike series in the World.
Graeme Gowland Motorpoint Hendersons Yamaha 9th position 56.64 sec:
"I think we are for a battle tomorrow! 30 laps around this track will be a serious test of mental and physical fitness and I am well up for it, Chris has done a good job and I am sure he will get one of his flying starts and mix it at the front, the times are so close around here a couple of tenths would have put me on the next row and made the job a bit easier but I have a good set up and as long as I keep out of trouble early on my fitness should come through"
Rob Mac:
"The guys have put a solid weekend together working on a good race package and trying to get the bike to work as economically as possible, 30 laps is a tough race and if the bike helps them it will give them a chance at the end of the race.
Mallory is tough for everyone specially the back room team, getting a good set up for their riders is crucial and now they have to sit on the pit wall and watch the paint swapping battles unfold!"
