Press release: A nail-biting ending to yet another record breaking race saw Metzeler take second place at the Royal London 360 Superstock TT, with a solid performance from the Hydrex Honda rider Guy Martin.
The fan’s favourite Martin, took the lead in the twisty Glen Helen section and after a faultless pit stop by the Hydrex team, Guy was leading by seven seconds. Martin and Ian Hutchinson continued to swap places and the scintillating race action was getting closer by the minute.
Martin completed lap three in first place but was still under attack from Hutchinson. The fast-paced scrap continued as they completed their final circuit of the 37.73 mile TT course. Hutchinson put in a new outright lap record to break Martin and take the win, producing an identical podium to the Supersport race of Hutchinson, Martin and Amor.
Guy Martin, Hydrex Honda rider:
“The first board I was given read P7 so I pulled the pin and got my head down. The tyres were giving me fantastic feedback and were really consistent. I got held up on the last lap over the mountain by some slower riders but hats off to Hutchy he was on it. I would like to say that I’m saving my maiden win for the Senior but I’d be telling a lie. Two second places in one day will have to do.”
Two metre man Conor Cummins brought his Metzeler backed McAdoo Kawasaki home in sixth place. Possible contender Relentless Suzuki by TAS rider Bruce Anstey retired at the pits at the end of lap one.
Wednesday holds a new Supersport challenge for Metzeler and their Racetec with Interact™ Technology tyre, the same tyre that can be bought by the general public through the large Metzeler dealer network. The tyre comes in three compounds for professional racing (K0, K1 and K2) and the K3 for the road rider.
Gianmarco Spigolon, Director of Metzeler:
“We can only reiterate that we are here to win. The Metzeler tyres proved to be a consistent performer for Guy Martin when he lapped at over 129mph during the Superstock race and who knows what the result would have been if he hadn’t been held up on the mountain by back markers? We look forward to Wednesday’s racing and the chance to prove that we are winning material!”
