The 2006 season has hardly had time to end up, as we are already entering the new 2007 one with a huge winter tests program. The 2007 bikes had just been unwrapped and prepared by the Kawasaki Gil Motor Sport technical staff, and were riding for the first time these Tuesday, the 14th, and Wednesday, the 15th, on the Valencia circuit in Spain.
All the technical staff were there for this very first contact with riders and their bikes during a test session which unfolded under the shining sun with an exceptional, for this period, temperature of + 23-24°.
During this first “coming out “of the beautiful Kawasaki ZX6RR 2007, the technical staff worked a lot adjusting positions, while the riders were making numerous laps on the track in order to get more familiar with the engine. On Tuesday already, both Kawasaki Gil Motor Sport riders, Fabien Foret and Pere Riba, were extremely satisfied with the new Kawasaki’s quality, all levels included.
The times realised are quite promising: while the best race lap on the Valencia circuit in 2006 was 1’ 38.7, Fabien Foret has done 1’37.7, and this, with the original fork and the engine only on its first development stage.
The 2002 World Champion’s impression from this first contact with the bike is more than favourable: “I’m really satisfied with these first tests. The bike’s conduct just made me confident and, I must admit, I have had loads of pleasure riding it. I had the feeling that I had been riding this bike all season long!” His team-mate, Pere Riba, shares this opinion and confirms that he has also felt himself in a close connection to the bike from the starters.
After this Valencia test session, from which we are drawing all necessary information in order to excel our performance, we are heading on to the Qatar tests, scheduled for 18 – 21 of December, where we will have the entire lot of engine and suspension details so that we could continue on our way towards perfection.
