Press release:At the first FIM SuperMoto World Championship outing on Mallory Park, Italian duo Lazzarini and Gozzini dominated the S1 and S2 qualifying sessions. Tonchev (Open) and home Superider Harrison (S3) won the European series.
S1
Despite this being the first experience on the challenging Mallory Park race track, HM Honda Racing’s Lazzarini stormed to his first season’s pole after a little fight with Van Den Bosch.
The 747 Motorsport TM Factory Racing’s Superider settled for second after topping the second free practice session. At that session Championship leader VDB saw third placed in the Championship Thomas Chareyre crash and dislocate a shoulder. The factory Husqvarna rider, who was pictured as a solid 2009 Title contender, will sit out of this round leaving Husqvarna CH Racing team mate Hermunen alone in the chase to VDB.
Hermunen actually qualified in third ahead of Rigo Racing’s Seel. The latter suffered a gap of more than one second from an incredible Lazzarini.
