Press release:After a huge amount of anticipation, the final parts of the Motocross Grand Prix of Great Britain are being put together for some superb racing from the world's best at Mallory Park in six days time.
With many of RHL Activities' staff working day and night to ensure every last detail is in place for the prestigious event, which begins with racing action from the World Supermoto series this Friday, it's certainly looking like a weekend not to be missed.
On the track spectators will be treated to an extremely full racing programme, with World Supermoto practice kicking off this Friday at 09.00am. The opening day of the event will be filled with sessions for the S1, S2 and S3 series, with the S3 races being held in the late afternoon.
By night, race fans will be treated to an evening of live entertainment from originals group, Shanty Town, followed by popular covers act, Stranded, who will perform close to the all-important bar areas, which boast 'pub prices' within the circuit perimeter. The atmosphere and build-up to the main racing will certainly be electric, and hugely enjoyable for all those who choose to stay around for the evening's proceedings.
Saturday will see the start of the Motocross action on the purpose built, Grand Prix track, where the World Championship-aces will, for the first time, experience the revised layout. Round seven of the 15-event series will also host the Veteran's race, in which many former World contenders and champions from what are now the MX1 and MX2 classes can be seen in action.
The super-exciting MX1 and MX2 qualifying races will follow the morning practice sessions, at 15.55, in which the racers will compete for an all-important good gate position ahead of Sunday's Grand Prix races.
At 18.15 the world class Supermoto racers will then take to their purpose-built track, which is made up of a section of the existing road race circuit and an all-new off-road dirt section. These side-ways sliding experts are certainly not to be missed, with British-aces Matt Winstanley and Chris Hodgson looking to take the honours in the S1 class, along with Christian Iddon in the S2 series. The Brits will be looking for your support, so make sure you head down to cheer them on for round two of the 10-event championship.
If that isn't enough to keep you well entertained, when the race machines have been parked up for the evening, live music will be on the agenda once again to continue the festivities into the night. Shanty Town will return to the stage to open the evening with another of their exciting originals sets, followed by a set from the United Kingdom's leading AC/DC tribute act.
Sunday's warm-up sessions kick off early, followed by the first of the day's racing with the Veterans out on track at 11.15am. Then it's action all the way as the from some of world's best motocross stars head out on track to battle it out for British Grand Prix glory.
The British world championship regulars Billy Mackenzie, Tom Church, Stephen Sword and Jason Dougan will be joined by a selection of promising wildcard riders hoping to be in the mix. Brad Anderson, Carl Nunn, Kristian Whatley and Jordan Rose will compete in the MX1 series while Scott Elderfield, who makes his Grand Prix debut this weekend, and Graeme Irwin will race the MX2 class.
Off the track RHL Activities has planned an array of activities with shopping, a fun fair, demonstrations, an adult entertainment area and much more. Some of the event organiser's specially tailored VIP packages are also available, should you like some extra special treatment over the course of the weekend.
All in all, this race event has absolutely everything to offer for a great weekend out for all of the family. With many improvements over last year, including a new spectator bank, grandstand, more tunnels for easier access into the centre of the circuit and the add of a race filled programme, it is definitely going to be the best British off-road event on the calendar.
