With the 'Low Emissions' TTXGP fast coming up, and the fact that we're geeks at heart and love to see new technology brought to motorcycles and racing, here's a brief roundup of various efforts of entrants to this years inargural TTXGP event, held on the Isle of Man on June 12th. Enjoy the photos attached...
TTX01The electric motorcycle, the TTX01 is being tested at the Circuit Zolder in Belgium. Professional riders Werner Daemen and Didier de Radigues both tested the bike and were impressed with the performance. Daemen rides for Team BMW Motorrad and Radigues is a four time Grand Prix winner, the 2001 ALMS Champion and also a well known TV presenter and commentator.
EVO Design
EVO Design delivered the first of their all new TTXGP Monocoque chassis. This was being tested by Paul Owen.
At testing recently, they were also lucky enough to be joined by Peter Williams, who in 1973, won the TT on a monocoque-framed Norton he helped design. He shared his recollection of the sceptics of the time who were quick to dismiss his daring to be different. Times haven't changed.
Electric Motorsport Inc
Oakland California USA, Electric Motorsport Inc. has unveiled its two entries for the June/12th Isle of Man TTXGP. In the open class is a modified production electric motorcycle called the GPR-S. The Electric Motorsport GPR-S were the first Production Electricmotorcycles capable of attaining legal freeway speeds in the USA.
In the Pro Class, the entry is the Electric Motorsport R144. This conversion is based on an R1 race chassis.
Electric Motorsport is a technology company that specializes in Light Electric Vehicles and electric propulsion systems. Over the past eight years the company's website www.electricmotorsport.com has become a one stop shop for electric vehicle builders around the world. Electric Motorsport is proud to say they have supplied electric drive systems and components to many of the TTXGP teams that will be competing. Why does Electric Motorsport supply its competitors with hi-performance electric drive components? Electric motorsport Founder and CEO Todd Kollin says "its mainly to promote the technology and to have some one to race with, and besides we are in the parts business. Racing is just the fun part and its not much fun without competition."
Electric Motorsport Inc has always placed an emphasis on the Electric motorcycle as away of using renewable energy such as solar, wind, hydroelectric, and geothermal to propel ourselves from one location to the next. The company has sold 1000's of electric motorcycle conversion kits. Electric Motorsport even sells books on how to convert your old gas motorcycle to electric. These conversions are great if you have a old bike that does not run so well or has a blown engine. An electric conversion can bring the thing back to life but without having to deal with oil, gas, noise, fumes, warm ups, tune ups, gear boxes, clutches. Barefoot Motors
Barefoot Motors, LLC is sponsoring an entry in the TTXGP.
The Barefoot Motors bike was handcrafted with a leading edge perimeter-style frame by Ely Schless, who heads research and development at Barefoot Motors. The bike, powered by lithium ion batteries, has a proprietary motor/drive integration system, created by Ely and the engineering team at Barefoot Motors. Ely is coy about the top speed, but says confidently it’s ‘fast.’
Ely is a licensed American Motorcycle Association rider, with experience in many sanctioned superbike races. He, along with Mark Gresens of Barefoot Motors, will attend the race and support the professional rider who will actually race the bike.
Mary Jo Gresens, chairman of Barefoot Motors, and Ely’s family will also be attending the race.
Max Scheder Bieschin, CEO of Barefoot Motors said,
‘Building this bike was a fun opportunity to showcase our technology that we use in our electric EUV’s. While we don’t plan to manufacture electric motorcycles, we’re proud to support Ely and sponsor his participation in this event. In the spirit of good competition, we wish our friends at Brammo Motorsports the best in coming in second.’
Mission Motors
45 days to go and things are cracking along. TTXGP grows each and every day. Mission Motors are now testing in San Francisco ("To Infineon and beyond!"). The bike looks great. Change is coming. Believe. For the sceptics, here are some pics (see attached).
Kingston University
On April 22nd, Kingston University launched their entry for the 2009 TTXGP to the world. It's now live and wheels rolling.
As part of a growing commitment to use TTXGP as the best testing facility in the world, Team Kingston's TTXGP entry represent prototype of a road legal product soon to come.
