The third event for the FIM MX3 World Championship and EMX2 European Championship will be in Cortelha, Portugal, this weekend. This will be the last event before riders will start their long travel to Chile.
Cortelha is a place on the Southern part of Portugal in province of Algarve. It has a green and hilly landscape. Motocross events are the biggest happening of last years. In the last two years the organizer Associção dos Amigos da Cortelha holds the MX3 and EMX2 events. Those are not the only events in their history. There had been also two 125 cc World Championships and a Sidecar World Championship.
After first two events in this season French riders are on the top of both Championships. There are three French on the top four of the MX3 World Championship. Julien Vanni (Honda) is leading, Pierre Alexandre Renet (Suzuki) is second and Christophe Martin (Husqvarna) fourth at the moment. Christophe Charlier (Yamaha) is leading the EMX2 European Championship. At the first rounds his advantage was so big, that there is no other rider who can beat him at the moment. Maybe the Portugese event will be lucky for Jeffrey Herlings (KTM), who was all the time behind Charlier, but till now he could not pass him. The FIM MX3 World Championship will be deprived for the 2008 World Champion Sven Breugelmans (KTM). He decided to go for another operation of the wrist, because the pain was too strong, although he has been operated already in the winter time.
Both leaders, Vanni and Charlier are self-confident and persuaded to continue their victorius riding also in Portugal. In the past season the race track Cortelha was very selective. It has many jumps and different technical sections, so the weekend will be very attractive and interesting for riders as well as also for spectators.
