For the Roads you Ride. It's all in the name; Versatile System - Versys. Built to attack the roads you ride, from city streets to mountain passes and everything between. The new Kawasaki Versys empowers riders to express their individual riding style and explore all types of road, in or out of town.

The all new Kawasaki Versys 650, which takes the motor from the ER6 and adds a high seating position, upright handlebars, adjustable screen and taller suspension to cope with city potholes. This twin-cylinder motor gets around the compromises of single-cylinder supermotos and makes the bike a direct rival for a wide range of bikes used by daily commuters, new riders wanting something fun and people living in cities who need something capable of tackling longer rides. The 71bhp twin offers enough torque and power for a 130mph top speed.

The Versys – short for Versatile System – has a new banana-shaped swingarm, taller suspension and an all-new fuel tank and half-fairing with a distinctive new headlight. The longer-travel front suspension has upside-down forks, replacing the conventional 41mm forks on the ER6 naked bike. The offset, side-mounted shock remains unchanged, although the new swingarm has been redesigned to curve around the exhaust.

The Versys keeps the great-looking components of the ER6 – the petal brake discs front and rear, the belly-mounted exhaust system and the 17-inch wheels, which allow proper road tyres to be fitted.

Tuned For Low-mid Range Torque:

When tuning the 649 cm³ Parallel Twin engine of the new Kawasaki Versys, the engineers’ first priority was to find throttle response that balanced a powerful feeling and a quick-revving character. To optimise performance for everyday riding, care was taken to maximise low-mid range torque.

• Intake and exhaust cams with short operating angles move the
torque curve toward the lower end of the rpm range.

• To achieve smooth power and torque curves, the exhaust system
makes use of a balance tube.

• Fuel injection settings for the Versys were selected primarily to
deliver a strong powerful feeling when the throttle is opened.

• Performance and feel were optimised for the mid-range (3,000-
6,000 rpm).

The above settings result in a performance that favours speeds most used in everyday riding: the range in and around 80-120 km/h.

Model Year 2007:

Engine type: Liquid-cooled, 4- stroke parallel twin tuned for low-mid rpm torque response
Displacement: 649 cm³ capacity
Suspension, front: Upside-down fork Fully adjustable long-stroke suspension
Suspension, rear: Gull-type aluminium swingarm
Brakes, front: Petal-disc brakes
Brakes, rear: Petal-disc brakes
Complies to EU emission limit: EURO 3

It’s expected the bike will cost around £5500 and will be available towards the end of this year.
