Press Release:
Eager to get some laps under her belt on the Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade, before heading off to the Isle of Man TT in a few weeks time, Jenny Tinmouth and her sorrymate.com teammates Bruce Wilson and Fergus Delgarno, won the Senior 1000 class, and finished third overall in the very entertaining Hottrax Motorsport 6 hour endurance race.
Rushing to prepare the bike for qualifying, Tinmouth would miss the opening minutes, and with Wilson having some technical problems with his Fireblade, it would be down to Tinmouth using the shared transponder, to set the qualifying time. Getting her head down she posted the fourth fastest time, to put the team at the sharp end of the grid.
The race itself started in traditional Le Mans style, with the riders sprinting across the track to their machines. Tinmouth didn’t make the best of starts, but was soon hauling in her rivals, and quickly made it up to third position. At this point her excitement took over and while reeling in the leaders, she spectacularly high-sided coming out of the Russell chicane.
Jenny Tinmouth:
“I was on a mission to catch the leading two, who had already pulled away. I went flat out and was reeling them back in very quickly, when my over excitement got the better of me and I launched myself over the high side at Russell’s”
Unfortunately she landed heavily on her back and also injured her hand, but surprisingly the bike didn’t suffer too much damage, and she managed to return it to pit lane for her mechanic Steve to assess and repair. The transponder was fitted to Delgarno’s machine, so they were still running in the race.
Bruce Wilson took up the next stint while Tinmouth’s sorrymate.com Fireblade was being repaired, and Tinmouth herself was assessing her fitness to continue. She made it back out a while later, but after a couple of laps the rear brake seized. Limping back down pit lane, the transponder was quickly fitted to Delgarno’s bike, and off he went, while Steve successfully repaired the problem.
In his next stint, it was Wilson’s turn to inspect the tarmac at the Russell’s chicane, this time though, the bike did suffer front end damage, which proved to be terminal. Alternating between Tinmouth’s and Delgarno’s machines, the team kept running at the sharp end of the leader board.
In addition to the accidents during the race, Tinmouth had also collected the team, not one, but two 20 second stop/go penalties for crossing the white line on the filter lane exiting the pits.
However, at the chequered flag, the team had secured third position overall, and won the Senior 1000 class, a very pleasing result, considering all the drama’s.
Jenny Tinmouth:
“I am happy with the result today, I put in our team’s best lap time, and posted the second fastest lap of the race on my first proper run on the sorrymate.com sponsored Fireblade, in preparation for the Isle of Man TT races coming up in June. I was really happy that the bike was ok after my little get off at Russell’s, I thought I had ruined it for my team and especially Fergus, who had made it all possible for Bruce and me to race, so it was nice for us all to come home with a trophy for our efforts.”
Jenny Tinmouth is back on track, riding her Honda CBR600RR, competing in round 2 of the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship, taking place at Oulton Park, over the weekend of 2-4 May, 2009.
