'TRACKER', the UK’s leading Stolen Vehicle Recovery specialist, is urging bikers to take extra security precautions when putting their machines away for the winter. The warning comes after Home Office figures show a rise in vehicle theft over the winter, a time when many motorbikes are annually taken off our roads by fair weather-riding owners.
TRACKER’s motorbike security expert, Greg Tucker, believes that because such a large number of motorbikes are taken off the roads by their owners during the harsh weather months, thefts from secured areas, such as garages or lock ups, are an increasing problem.
The company’s flagship TRACKER Monitor system will raise the alarm the moment a motorbike is taken without authorisation and then pin-point its location to the police.
Mr Tucker, head of TRACKER’s motorbike division, said: “The number of motorbikes on our roads falls dramatically from late autumn until the spring and yet thefts continue to rise over this period. The bikes are being stolen from secured garages and lock-ups.
“What is particularly worrying is that many owners may not be aware their motorbike has been stolen until they next try and ride it, and over the winter that could well be days, weeks or even months.
“TRACKER isn’t an anti-theft device. It will not prevent a thief from taking a machine. What it will do is lead the police directly to the machine and ensure its return.”
Introduced in February, TRACKER’s new price structure ensures an impressive £140 saving for its entry-level Retrieve system, now available for £259 and includes installation and first year’s subscription. TRACKER also slashed £100 off its Monitor system, providing owners with peace of mind for £399 - including installation and first year’s subscription.
TRACKER’s system enables the police to pin-point a stolen vehicle literally to within a matter of feet, whether it is hidden in a container or lock-up or, in some cases, while still being transported in the back of a van.
TRACKER Retrieve is activated when a motorbike is reported stolen whereas Monitor alerts TRACKER HQ of any unauthorised movement of the motorbike. The owner is contacted to confirm the theft and if validated, TRACKER activates the unit. Both systems transmit a VHF radio signal, allowing the motorbike to be tracked even when inside a moving van or lock-up/container unit. TRACKER’s technology pinpoints the position of the vehicle to within a couple of feet.
During 2005, TRACKER teamed up with the police to trace and return more than £36 million worth of stolen vehicles to their rightful owners. To date the company has recovered more than 15,000 vehicles - worth over £325 million - since 1993.
