An update of the BMW G 650 Xcountry will shortly be in BMW Motorrad dealerships. Equipped with a number of specification changes and accessories compared to its predecessor, the G 650 Xcountry has also been lowered and is available in a distinctive new sunset yellow and white aluminium metallic colour combination. The changes to this ‘urban scrambler’, along with the fact that it is now more suitable for carrying a passenger, have made the motorcycle more versatile and more appealing especially to urbanites.
The new lower seat height is available after modifications to the upside-down forks, the adjustable rear suspension unit and changes in the chassis and saddle contours resulting in a seat-height reduction from 840-870mm to 800-825 mm. This, coupled with the low weight of the model at just 161.5kg, produces a highly manageable bike, in keeping with BMW Motorrad’s continued commitment to make their bikes more accessible to a wider audience.
Further improvements to the new model include the addition of integrated passenger footrests, instead of the previous bolt-on type. And adjustable hand lever controls are fitted as standard for both the brake and clutch levers for ease of use by all riders. The brake lever is five position adjustable and the clutch lever is adjustable to four positions. These options provide riders with greater control and confidence when riding.
A BMW topcase and topcase rack, ideal for storing luggage or a spare helmet are also available as accessories for the first time giving the bike added functionality. This is also of benefit for pillion riders, providing a back rest for increased safety and comfort.
Marked by its unique styling, the bike won the prestigious German Design Award earlier this year for excellence in design. The BMW G 650 Xcountry secured the ‘Gold Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany’, of which only five are awarded each year across the entire design spectrum.
