BMW has revealed that 2009 will see the launch of the light-weight Carbon Enduro helmet. Based on the current Enduro helmet, the new product builds on the technology used to create the incredibly light Carbon SportIntegral helmet.
With the Carbon Enduro helmet, BMW Motorrad has demonstrated once again that style and function can be successfully combined. The slim sporty shape, unpainted carbon shell and aerodynamically perfected visor create a superb look and make the perfect enduro accessory. With ECE 22-05 certification the helmet is suitable for use both on and off-road.
The design has been developed using a wind tunnel to create a helmet that is unbeaten in terms of aerodynamic streamlining. This also ensures that wind noise is kept to a minimum maintaining a safer, more comfortable environment for the wearer.
The helmet is constructed from high-quality carbon with the total weight including visor and peak, of a mere 1,070 grams for the small helmet shell or 1,170 grams for the large helmet shell. This makes it not just the only enduro helmet made from carbon with both visor and peak, but also the lightest enduro helmet on the market. This is a definite advantage, especially on long tours or for taking part in off-road sports.
The low weight of the helmet is due not only to the carbon and aramide outer shell but also the impact-absorbing, single-section plastic inner shell or EPS. Although it is lightweight the helmet still provides a high level of safety performance which is enhanced by the neck straps integrated in the chin strap which provide additional support so that in the event of an accident the helmet is prevented from twisting.
All inner fittings are made from high-quality Alcantara and Coolmax fabric (DuPont) and can be removed for washing. When things get hot, an efficient ventilation system for the forehead and visor and low-pressure ventilation function in the neck area offer simple but effective climate regulation.
The visor offers almost 100 percent UV radiation absorption with an antiscratch coating. An additional antifog coating and the removable chin spoiler ensure optimum visibility even in damp weather or when used for sport riding. A tinted visor and visor with reflective coating are also available as accessories and can be fitted easily with no need for tools.
The Enduro Carbon helmet is available in sizes 53/54 and 55/56 (helmet shell S), 57/58 and 59/60 (helmet shell M) and 61/62 and 63/64 (helmet shell L). Price to be confirmed.
