Sheila Rainger, one of the country’s leading automotive industry campaigners, has joined the Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCI) as director of research and statistical services.

A motorcyclist herself, Sheila joins the MCI from the Royal Automobile Club Foundation for Motoring (RAC Foundation) where she has been deputy director since April this year. Before that, Sheila was acting director as well as head of campaigns.

Sheila Rainger (38) brings considerable experience of automotive campaigning, including relationships with government, parliament, NGOs and the media. Prior to joining the RAC Foundation in 2005, she was deputy public affairs secretary to the Archbishop of Canterbury and also has past experience with the Parliamentary Information Unit, Arthur Andersen, Oxford University and the Department of Transport.

Reporting to MCI acting chief executive Steve Kenward, Sheila will manage all aspects of the MCI’s market intelligence function. Crucially, she will also devise policy for future market research and develop the MCI’s statistical services. This will include the analysis of market activity and trends, and external factors affecting the motorcycle market and industry.

Sheila Rainger:

“Despite difficult economic times, the motorcycle market is holding up well, and has never been more relevant as an effective and efficient means of transport. The next few years present the industry with opportunities as well as challenges, and I look forward to helping the market grow and making a strong case for powered two wheelers.”

Steve Kenward:

“Sheila has a reputation as an effective campaigner, and the MCI has worked closely with her and the RAC Foundation in the past. Her experience will add considerable clout to an already strong team and we are delighted to have her fully ‘onside.’ We are committed to growth in the PTW market and to providing the best possible package of benefits to members of the MCI and recently launched Motor Cycle Industry Trainers’ Association. Sheila will help us fulfil those goals.”
