Jenny Tinmouth made further progress in her debut season in the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship, last weekend, at the famous circuit of Silverstone, Northants. She secured sixth place of the Cup competitors, and 29th position overall, in the penultimate round of the highly competitive series, promoting her to equal seventh place in the Cup.

Having never ridden the 2.21 mile Silverstone International circuit before on her Honda CBR600RR, Friday was to be very much a learning experience. However, over the two free practice sessions, Tinmouth improved her times by almost two seconds, leaving her feeling quite pleased with her day’s work.

The first qualification session on Saturday morning again proved fruitful for Tinmouth, reducing her times by a further 0.722 seconds. Unfortunately, the final qualifying period didn’t really go according to plan, within two laps Jenny realised that the rear tyre had spun on the rim, preventing her from really settling into a good rhythm, leaving her with a marginally better time, but placed 36th on the grid for the following days race.

Explaining afterwards, Jenny commented:

“My rear tyre spun on the rim, sending it out of balance, something I had not experienced before. It was like riding on a bumpy road the whole time with the rear vibration transferring to the front and getting worse at higher speeds. At least having now experienced the problem, I will know what it is next time.”

As the lights went out at the start of Sunday’s race, Tinmouth made a fantastic start, making up three places immediately. Over the following laps she managed to build a decent gap to the riders behind her. However, due to an incident, the safety car was deployed, and the pack inevitably bunched up again. Once racing laps re-commenced, she made one or two minor errors, thus allowing Billy Mellor through for a position. It was a hard race for Tinmouth, but nevertheless, she had once again improved her lap times, and finished inside the top thirty, just over a minute behind race winner, South African, Hudson Kennaugh.

Jenny Tinmouth:

“After the safety car went in, I made a couple of mistakes, and had a huge bug splatted on my visor, which momentarily put me right off, as I thought it may be oil. This lost me some time, allowing Billy Mellor to get by, then I missed a couple of gears, and he was away. I was a bit gutted, but happy overall with the weekend, as it’s a big learning year for me on a 600. I’ve learnt something new every weekend, and now I’m just looking forward to round the season off with a positive result at Brands!”

Jenny Tinmouth will be back in action at Brand Hatch (Indy), over the weekend of 10th-12th October, for the final round of this year’s Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship.
