GIL Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R competitors Katsuaki Fujiwara and Chris Martin are set to attack in the intensely competitive World Supersport category once again this weekend, at the Magny-Cours circuit.

Seasoned World Supersport campaigner Fujiwara is already a well known figure in the 600cc class, but for Chris Martin, the whole experience of WSS competition is a novel one in 2008, and Magny-Cours will be another new track for him to learn.

Fujiwara’s latest French adventure in his eighth WSS season sees him out to beat his season best qualifying of fifth so he can start Sunday’s race from the best possible grid position. He is currently 22nd in the championship standings, with 14 points.

Martin, a regular British Supersport competitor who is currently fifth in the points rankings in his own domestic Supersport series, scored a point in his first WSS race for the GIL WSS team, at Donington Park. He will be out for more points at Magny-Cours, in what will only be his third WSS ride for the Belgian-based team.

Katsuaki Fujiwara:

“For France, we have to have good conditions in qualifying to get the bike set the way we need for races. We will just try our best again, like we always. We will have more things to try out on the bike when we get there.”

Chris Martin:

“I have never been to Magny-Cours so it’s a new one for me. I'll just get my head down and get on with it. If it’s going to be wet then it may well be good for us, because I don’t mind the wet. Since I started riding for them the team has been brilliant and it does make things easier also riding a Kawasaki in the British Championships. There is a bit of difference between my UK bike and the one in Worlds, but it’s not a jump. The guys in the team are fabulous to work for, and they know the difficulties we have to overcome.”
