Rizla Suzuki Completes Successful Final 08 Test
3 Days ago
Rizla Suzuki MotoGP has rounded off 2008 with a successful three-day test at Phillip Island in Australia. Loris Capirossi and Chris Vermeulen recorded over 450 laps of the 4,448m Australian circuit between them over the three days, as the two conducted exhaustive tests on the Suzuki Factory’s prototype parts for the 2009 GSV-R. Good weather at Phillip Island for the majority of the test enabled both riders to get through a significant workload as they evaluated everything from new front forks to rear swinging arms, new chassis’, rear suspension parts and aerodynamic upgrades. Capirossi and Vermeulen then both conducted two race simulation runs each on the final day. This allowed them to compare the 2008 Phillip Island race tyre and the proposed new single spec tyre that all riders will be using in 2009. The data that the two Suzuki factory racers collected will be invaluable to Bridgestone as it refines the tyre for next year’s championship.

Kawasaki Conclude Successful Phillip Island Test
3 Days ago
The Kawasaki Racing Team today concluded a successful three-day test at the Phillip Island circuit in Australia, with the three riders clocking up more than 150 laps of the 4.445km track, despite less than ideal weather conditions. Overnight rain had left the track damp in the morning, and while the infamous Phillip Island wind was quick to dry the track out, it also lowered the track temperature significantly, which caught out test and development rider Olivier Jacque. The former 250cc world champion had a big crash late on in the afternoon, after highsiding himself on a cold rear tyre at the right-hand Hayshed turn. Jacque was uninjured in the crash, but admitted on his return to the pit box that it was a bit of a 'scary moment'.

Kallio Seventh, Canepa 11th in Jerez
2008 testing are over for the Pramac Racing Team with the two new riders, Mika Kallio and Niccolò Canepa, who concluded respectively in seventh and eleventh position. Mika made it to finish with only just a tenth of a second over the third position occupied by Jorge Lorenzo and this underline the good feeling found with the Ducati Desmosedici GP9 Sat by the Finnish rider. Niccolò has worked hard on the set up of the bike, concluding just over half a second from his teammate. Notwithstanding the rain that came down during the night, the track had dried out quickly allowing the riders to ride for many laps from 2pm till 5.30pm. After the winter break the Pramac Racing Team will be back on track for the Sepang test next 5th, 6th and 7th of February.

Lorenzo Third Fastest at Year Ending Jerez Test
3 Days ago
Fiat Yamaha Team rider Jorge Lorenzo finished the final test of 2008 in third position today, signing off his successful rookie year in strong form before a well-deserved two-month break. His team-mate Valentino Rossi was quickest, with Dani Pedrosa second. It was another cold day in Jerez and Lorenzo did not make his first foray on track until 1.30 pm, completing 58 laps before ending his day at 5pm. The 21-year-old spent the entire time today on a test bike, which carries some new prototype parts, familiarising himself with the different machine, working on establishing a base setting and continuing to improve his feeling with the new single-brand tyres. He showed his improvement with a best lap of 1’40.426, just over 0.3 seconds off the current lap record.

Rossi Signs Off for Winter Holiday with Fastest Time at Jerez
3 Days ago
World Champion Valentino Rossi set the fastest time in Jerez today on the final day of testing for the year. His Fiat Yamaha team-mate Jorge Lorenzo was third fastest, making it a successful concluding test for the year’s leading team. Rossi spent most of his time today on the new 2009-prototype M1, working on developing the setting and also trying out some new parts for the engine, amongst other things. He set his best time of the day on his 52nd of 54 laps, dipping nearly seven tenths of a second under the lap record with a time of 1’39.429. The Italian and his team will now have two months to recover from a hard season while the MotoGP testing ban is in force. The next on-track action will be at Sepang in Malaysia on 5th, 6th and 7th February 2009.

Kawasaki Continue Good Work Despite Rain
Work continued in Australia today with the second of three days development testing for the Kawasaki Racing Team, which brought positive results, despite mixed weather conditions at the Phillip Island circuit. Kawasaki's regular MotoGP pilots John Hopkins and Marco Melandri, who are joined by test and development rider, Olivier Jacque, were forced to halt their test sessions today due to brief rain showers. However, all three riders continued to make further improvements to their race machines and improved their lap times from the opening day of the test. Melandri, who continued his familiarisation with the Ninja ZX-RR during yesterday, evaluated the revised chassis previously tested by Olivier Jacque in today's session. The 26-year-old Italian completed 64 laps of the 4.445km circuit and significantly reduced his lap time from yesterday by nearly a second to 1'31.8s, despite crashing without injury at turn four late on in the afternoon.

Pedrosa & Dovizioso Faster at Jerez
Repsol Honda riders Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso completed their final test of 2008 at Jerez today, both men continuing the useful progress they made yesterday despite limited track time. Overnight rain forced the pair to make a late start, both riders waiting until lunchtime before considering the track dry enough to make riding worthwhile. Pedrosa improved on his impressive pace from yesterday, once again lapping comfortably inside his own lap record aboard a 2009 prototype RC212V. Dovizioso, riding only his second test sessions with the factory team, also upped his pace aboard his prototype 2009 RC212V.

MotoGP Testing Calender Concludes for 2008 at Jerez
4 Days ago
The Ducati Marlboro Team completed their final test of 2008 today with Nicky Hayden fifth fastest at the end of a day that saw a particularly late start to the action on track. Despite slightly warmer temperatures than Wednesday, overnight rain made for a damp track surface until the early afternoon. Hayden took to the track shortly before 2pm and, like yesterday, he steadily improved his pace with each outing. The American worked calmly and methodically despite the limited time available as he continued to get comfortable with the Ducati and Bridgestone tyres. Both the rider and the team were satisfied with his progress.

Successful First Day at the Island for Kawasaki
4 Days ago
The Kawasaki Racing Team were met with perfect conditions as they arrived at the Phillip Island circuit in Australia today, to start the first of three days of development testing ahead of the annual test ban, which comes into force on 1st December. This is an important test for Kawasaki, as all the data collected during these three days in the southern hemisphere will be fed directly in the development programme for the 2009 Ninja ZX-RR, which is due to make its track debut at Sepang in February. To increase the amount of data collected, Kawasaki's regular MotoGP pilots were joined in Australia by test and development rider, Olivier Jacque, with the three of them clocking up more than 1000 kilometres around the Phillip Island circuit on the opening day.

Capirossi Tastes Podium Success in UK Rally
10 November 2008
Rizla Suzuki MotoGP racer Loris Capirossi had a successful rally debut yesterday as he drove his Suzuki Swift to third place in the Swift Sport Cup, and ninth position overall in the two-wheel drive section of the Tempest Rally. Capirossi started the day steadily in his Group N car as he came to terms with the demanding 80km of special stages held in the forests and Military training grounds around the Hampshire town of Aldershot in England. As the day progressed, Capirossi became more confident with the incredible performance and handling of the Swift and moved through the field before eventually getting into the top-three in the later stages. He pushed hard as darkness fell, but couldn’t quite find the few seconds that he needed to progress further up the leader-board. With comprehensive assistance from experienced co-driver Craig Thorley, Capirossi brought his number 65 Suzuki Swift home in third place, just 14 seconds away from the eventual Swift Sport Cup rally - and championship – winner Mark Gamble.

San Carlo Honda Gresini Second Day Testing
29 October 2008
The second and last tests day to prepare the 2009 season, in Valencia, has been set back by the adverse weather conditions: during the morning in fact no rider has been testing because of some drops of rain, and the Ricardo Tormo asphalt was humid; the beginning of testing has been therefore postponed to the afternoon. Today each rider was provided with only one rain tyres set, so Alex De Angelis and his team made the decision not to test because of the difficult track conditions: the asphalt was humid and its temperature was getting colder.

Nicky Hayden Fastest At Wet Valencia
29 October 2008
After enjoying perfect conditions yesterday, the second and final day of testing at Valencia was badly affected by adverse weather, with intermittent showers leaving the track in a constantly damp state. The riders decided to wait for the majority of the day to see if it relented but at around 15:30, with the asphalt still cold and wet, several of them finally took to the track.

Dovizioso Makes Wet-Weather Debut with Repsol
28 October 2008
Cold, wet weather dominated the second day of testing at Valencia today, with most riders deciding that there was little to learn in the tricky conditions. Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa was one of those who decided not to test, but his new team-mate Andrea Dovizioso was keen to evaluate Bridgestone rain tyres for the first time. The track was neither dry nor fully wet for much of the day, so Dovizioso waited until 15.30 to begin testing, once heavier rain had made rain tyre testing worthwhile. The Italian rode his RC212V for an hour and a half, gathering plenty of useful information.
