Description
9 o'clock Sunday 4th June and LB's intrepid race photojournalists tramp into Mallory Park for the Race Day of the Bennetts British Superbike round 6.
The weather looked as glorious as the previous day, so with pasty legs on display, and sun tan lotion freshly applied we split up to cover the event as best we could. With one of us working outside the circuit while the other covered the paddock and inside track views, we managed some pretty comprehensive coverage. Sadly we weren't allowed into the pits or grid once racing commenced, and the pit lane pictures I took were from the morning warm up sessions.
Race 1 saw Damon at the start/finish line while I wandered around to the 1st chicane, newly installed and expected to cause carnage. It didn't disappoint with several riders going down from mid-pack. Kiyonari stormed to well earned win while the Ducatis played an unfamiliar game of catch up.
The Supersport race ran between the two BSB races, and was not without its own dramas. On the last lap race leader Eugene Laverty skittled a back marker moments after I arrived at the 2nd chicane, demonstrating the truth behind the slogan "Red Bull gives you Wings". Nil points for Laverty then, and doubtless an enemy made for the next race.
The second BSB race started without incident, and pretty much everybody finished, this time normal service was resumed as the Ducatis got a one/two result, except not by the usual margins as Kyonari was close behind.
We hope you like the photos, apologies that they are not in the correct chronological order as Damon skipped the kebab when he got home and started processing immediately. I, predicably, did not.
