Well here you are, more pics from Silverstone WSB (and you can't have too much of a good thing) this time concentrating on the action, rather than the glamour of the pit lane.
Saturday 27th (Qualifying) May 2006I (Andrew) spent the day sploshing around the gray, windswept and particularly wet Silverstone circuit to catch some track action while Jay and Foxy covered the pitlane action. So they get to stand in the Ten Kate pit and I get to stand in the mud. Ah well, every budding sports photographer has to start somewhere. Silverstone seems a particularly difficult track to take pictures from as all the public access areas are separated from the track by tall mesh fences, even if you go inside a corner (normally less fenced in on other tracks). I did find a spot and actually sneaked up against the crash barriers with the press guys. We were all soaking and wearing huge waterproof coats / bin bags so no passes were being flashed around.
All from the same stretch of circuit and are of the WSB guys only. The VERY wet pics are from the morning warmup, and the less wet ones from the afternoon warm up and qualifying session. The very fast dude on the Virgin Yamaha R1 is (Rock On) Tommy Hill who took pole and was noticably quicker than anyone else. Then it was back to the car, and a damp drive home. Then a spot of dinner and the small matter of wading through 900 photos from the day.
Sunday (Race Day) 28th May 2006Another fairly early start to drive up to the circuit (a fast 45mins of fantastic country roads) on a much drier and brighter morning. I collected my special pass from a new and good friend of mine - cheers M for that - and headed into the very exclusive looking BRDC building over looking the complex section of the course. It is a great location - alongside the pit entrance and final chicane - and allowed several vantage points including shooting from the roof. All in all, a very good race meet and it was great to see these guys making Silverstone look easy. More on how hard we make it after the 19th of June...
