Description
The second member-organised event of the year was a big one, at least fifty confirmed riders attended the St Georges Day ride-out, organised and planned by Puppy, Flatout and Njs71. The event was posted up in the forums a month in advance and received a lot of attention, with MCN (motorcycle news) picking up on it and publicising it in their newspaper on the week of the ride.
The weekend started out fantastically, but the weather took a turn for the worse on the morning of the ride, with rain putting a damper on the morning. Not to be defeated though, fifty plus bikes (plus pillions) turned up at first meeting point; The Ace Cafe. From here the group left for the official starting point, the Deep Mill Diner near Amersham on the A413. After a briefing on how the day would be run, and how everyone would be navigated along the route, maps were handed out to everyone, then the ride-out started.
A long route was planned for the day, though this was cut a bit shorter due to the conditions, and the weather slowly eased up, allowing for some spirited riding by those interested in doing so, and an otherwise good ride ensured for those interested in a more leisurely pace. A couple of set-backs reared themselves when appointed corner-men didn't stick to their posts, and someone had a slight corner-related-issue, but that aside, things went smoothly and everyone made a good day of things, despite the weather.
The final destination for the day was the Dragon Hill, where myth and lore have it that St George slayed the mighty dragon. Upon arriving here, the group rode up the hill, being exposed to some of the most magnificent views that the South East of the country has to offer. At the top was the car-park where food and hot drinks were mightly appreciated by the group. A huge thanks goes out to Suzi and friends for making this possible, I don't think she realised just how much everyone was pleased to be there and have the food and drink.
After some fun, chat, taking in the views and some foolery, everyone decided to go off home in a few different directions. Most of us arrived home to de-robe, relax, fall asleep and then wake with fond memories of the day. We all hope this is the first of many great ride-outs. Thank-you to everybody involved!
Thank-you to Infinity Motorcycles in Great Portland St for donating High-Visibility jackets to LB for use by the event marshalls.
