LB Member Flatout likes riding to the south coast and for the second time decided to put an open invitation on the forum so fellow members could join him.
The destination this time was Hastings which promised sea views, fish and chips, amusement arcades and a simple route for even the more navigationally challenged amongst us. The one thing it couldn't promise was sunshine, or even the less ambitious request of a dry run there and back. The weather for the week leading up to the ride was at best mixed, and the Saturday daytime continued that theme with frequent heavy showers.
So it was heartening to see that a large number of the promised attendees turned up, several clad ready for rain mind, but still they turned up. 10 of us left the Ace and headed through south London to Locksbottom where about 20 people waited for us and we left for Hastings along the A21.
One of Londonbikers aims is to unite bikers of all types and sizes and this ride was no different to others - we had everything from 1 litre sportsbikes to a 50cc with L plates on. No-one was left to ride on their own yet most people got to ride at their own pace which is exactly how it should be.
Upon arrival we chained the bikes up and hit the funfair, the chip shop and finally the arcades. The weather stayed dry and everybody seemed to enjoy themselves - several members are fairly new to the site and probably wondered what they'd let themselves in for but I think it's fair to say they'll be back for the next one.
People started drifting off at about 9 o'clock and the only rain of the evening was generally encountered around the M25 but considering how changeable the weather has been, we got off lightly.
