Leon Haslam and Jonathan Rea shared the victories in a dramatic, incident packed eleventh round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Cadwell Park in which Ryuchi Kiyonari, twice second, moved closer to retaining his crown.
The Japanese rider is now 41 points clear of his HM Plant Honda team-mate Rea with only two rounds remaining but he had mixed emotions at the end of the day: “Happy with lead, but wanted to win here – this is the only circuit where I have not won.”
Airwaves Ducati’s Leon Haslam made a late break into the 2007 Airwaves Speed League today, securing the fastest lap of the day during the second race of the Cadwell Park Bennetts British Superbike race. A time of 1:26.654s was enough to shatter his own 2006 lap record by nearly a second and a half and allow him to break into the Airwaves Speed League with two points.
In Race 1 it was Leon Camier who looked good to score when he took the fastest lap, however he crashed out of both races putting paid to his chances of securing some points and kicking it up a gear in the Airwaves challenge. It was not to be and, in addition to the Race 1 win, Haslam again proved to be the quickest on track at the 2.18 mile Lincolnshire circuit despite crashing out of the second Bennetts superbike race.
In race two Camier got a steady start and completed the first lap in 10th position and by lap seven the Bike Animal Honda rider had elevated himself to seventh place. On lap nine disaster struck when Camier dramatically highsided at the Mountain Top and landed heavily. He has been taken to hospital with injuries to his left leg but it is unclear at this stage the extent of the damage.
