Description
Words by FoxyToday saw the second annual Londonbikers St Georges Day ride-out, seeing around 60 members meeting up at the Ace Cafe for breakfast, and then head out to the historic St George Mount in Uffington, which is about 20 miles from Oxford.
The sun was shining and the day started with everyone meeting at around 09.30 at the Ace Cafe in North London, filling their bellies with breakfast and preparing for the days riding. Just before 10am, Matt gathered the troops and gave a brief chat about the route and corner-man system, explaining that he would be at the front of the pack and Patrick would be the tail man. With all of that done, and the last preparations all sorted, all we had to do was wait for Blade! Everyone got on their bikes and hit the A40 west.
After a short time on the motorway we took a slip road off and headed towards Aylesbury on some nice winding roads. Everyone was going at their own pace, and the corner-man system working well. Within no time at all we made our first stop, the car park of a Travel Inn hotel; this was a much welcome break for the girls! It was also time for a couple of other members to catch up with the main group to join in the days fun.
Back on the road, we went through some really beautiful villages and rode the twisty lanes, fast straights and some wicked round-a-bouts, of which, some of the lads took advantage of, to practice getting their knees down. There was one stop when GSXResurrector’s gear shift had come loose, Foxy stopped and got the tool kit out of her trusty Gixxer to help out, thank god for new bikes with tool kit in place!
Full steam ahead and a couple of hours riding towards St George Mount in Uffington, only once did the corner-man system fail, this lead to Ginger and Patrick running around like nutters trying to locate the last corner person and gather the lost souls... The next stop was the petrol station, this allowed the gang to have a chat about the journey so far, fill their bikes and wait for the last stragglers to catch up after Patrick had finally found them.
The roads were absolutely amazing, such a nice variety of fast twistys, long straights, slow and hard breaking corners... perfect! Once at our destination, everyone parked up, found the ice-cream van and filled their faces. Most made their way to the top of the hill and took over the picnic area, ate their packed lunches and just chilled, it was nice to get off the bikes for an hour and stretch our aching bones and bums.
The journey back was just as fun and again, the roads were fantastic. It was a long day, but the main thing was that everyone got home safe and in one piece.
Thanks to Flatout, Matt and Patrick for getting everything organised and to the hosts for being such great support during the day, and thanks to the guys for the extra photos. Until next year then....
