| Not quite as bad as it looks - the website says they'll only close the tunnel for works at night. However, I can expect work to overrun into the early hours on some occasions.

Why?? Seems like traffic can still flow during late hours by using the southbound tunnel diversion. If a job it worth doing then it is worth doing properly - seems like this was long overdue.

| | From Sunday 7 February drivers won't be able to travel south through the Blackwall Tunnel overnight When the tunnel is closed, northbound traffic will use the remaining, newer tunnel with all southbound traffic diverted via other river crossings such as Tower Bridge, the Rotherhithe Tunnel or the Dartford crossings. The Tunnel will close Sundays to Thursdays between 2100 and 0500 GMT. There will also be occasional closures on Friday nights. ps: The Rotherhithe Tunnel will close every Friday night from midnight to 0700 GMT.

What is now the northbound tunnel was opened in 1897 - it's the southbound that was opened in 1967. So who's feeling a bt of a cretin now?
