| | Train traffic through the Channel Tunnel, which links England and France, has been suspended following a fire. No-one was injured in the blaze that began at 1400 GMT in a freight train about seven miles from the French coast, Eurotunnel officials said. Some 32 people - all of them said to be lorry drivers - were evacuated through a "safety tunnel". French firefighters have now brought the blaze under control. The cause of the fire was not immediately known. A Eurotunnel spokeswoman was unable to say when services through the tunnel would resume. This may cause a knock on effect over the next few days. Therefore, travellers are advised to check the situation before travelling. ATP are currently in the process of contacting any of their passengers who may be affected.

| | Had it confirmed by Eurostar themselves, no trains will be coming into or out of St.Pancras all day. |

| yep! Due to yesterday’s incident involving a Eurotunnel shuttle train, the tunnel remains closed today. Eurostar does not expect to operate a service today between the UK and the Continent.
Travellers holding tickets for today are advised that they will be unable to travel by Eurostar. Please contact ATP to make alternative arrangements. Eurostar tickets can be exchanged for travel at a later date or refunded in full. Travellers booked to travel over the weekend (Saturday 13/09 & Sunday 14/09) should check Eurostar.com at the link below for further updates from Friday 12 September onwards. http://www.eurostar.com/dynamic/_SvBoExpressBookingTerm?_TMS=1221206180942&_DLG=SvBoExpressBookingTerm&_LANG=UK&_AGENCY=ESTAR&country=UK&lang=UK&VT=EB

| the trucks go in a open train carrage and all the drivers go in a restarant car at the front so if there is a fire they will be in front of the fire and can escape easier..i can see why the train cannot keep going and drag the fire out with it rather than stopping mid tunnel..it could be out for some time..i think this is the 2nd fire on a truck train in recent years

| The previous fire was about 12 years ago - also a lorry fire though. That time the tunnel affecxted stayed closed for six months!
This time all three tunnels were contaminated by chemical spills.
