Just a punt (it's late...)

Is there any mileage in convening an LB machine control day?  This wouldn't be wheelie school - the absolute opposite, this would be for slow control etc.  We'd need at least one qualified instructor, several advanced observers and a sensible venue.  I'd could do with the practice myself, and it would be a good confidence booster for L platers.

Note, I'm just providing the idea!

Yep, I'd do it again. I thoroughly enjoyed doing it 2 years ago.

Learning just how hard I can apply just the front brake and then repeating the exercise with the back one, sooooo exciting!

Oh and trying not to 'put down' my bike on the u-turn

A day spent doing this is great - if we know when it's gonna be (not a race weekend) i'll come and help out as I've done one before and can remember most bits.

I was rather hoping there would be suitable folk here on LB, but it might be feasible to ask a local IAM group if they would do a day for us, for a consideration.  They might even get some new recruits out of it!

If I may be so bold

ELAM run a Machine Control Day as part of their structured training course towards IAM qualification.  We use one of the car parks at Gallions Reach shopping centre in Beckton - on the A113 between the A406 and the London City Airport.

We could run one for London Bikers Forum members, if there was sufficient uptake, but would need an idea as to numbers etc.

If someone wants to contact me off list, all my details are within my profile.

Here is a photograph of what we get up to

East London Advanced Motorcyclists (ELAM) have an agreement with the centre management.  We use one of the overflow car-parks for the exercises.

Assuming their are no liability insurance problems, we would look to levy a voluntary contribution from all those that attend.  This money would go into the Group funds, and the Observers will give of their time willingly.

Hopefully a few of you may even decide that you wish to gain a Skill for Life and do the advanced riding course with us.

If you want to find out more about us click here, or contact me using the details in my profile page, or just send me a pm.

As one of the dreaded L-plate teenagers I'm interested (and probably need it). I cannot commit until the venue is definite, as an L-plater living in Ruislip I wouldn't like to go silly distances

Wow, that's quite a few.

I think I mentioned that the venue will be the Gallions Reach shopping centre, Armada Way in Beckton.  Not far from the City Airport.

As to date, let me talk to the centre management people and consult our Group calendar, but it would more than likely be either toward the end of July or August.  That way the weather is likely to be fine, dry and warm.

Will get back to you all ASP

Sorry for the delay but had to check availability, insurance etc.  Now all sorted though.

We can run this day on EITHER Monday 25th August (Yes, that's the Bank Holiday Monday) OR Sunday 31st August

Which is it to be?

Riding safely cannot be thought of as an add-on extra; it has to built into the way you ride.

Practice is the only way in which skills become automatic and readily available when you need them
