After getting back from Amsterdam driving over there for work in the truck i thought id get the ball rolling

So that it gives you time to sort out your diarys i was thinking of having the curry night on the 5th April 2010

Meet at the Shooting Star from 5.30 onwards : Address: 125-129, Middlesex St, London, E1 7JF, which is just a short staggering distance from Brick Lane and a big fat curry - yum yum!

We'll be there with beers until around 7.30 and then off to Brick Lane.

Someone will haggle a deal (any volunteers?) between various curry houses so the final venue is TBC [BigGrin]

Biggest bike clothing store ?

Hi all,

Any idea what the biggest bike clothing store within 1 hour of the A406/A1020/A13 roundabout is ? I'm looking at new gloves, and everything I look at seems to be in a different store or buy it online. But I hate buying clothes on line.

Hein Gericke at Gants Hill don't have a very big range and Infinity at Holborn don't seem too interested in selling things or being polite. Any other options ?

I'd ideally like someone with a good range of kit, goretex is a must.

Becoming a London Biker

I've had to move jobs recently due to big cuts in spending on Healthcare in the recent budgeting for this year. The only place where there are still jobs in what I do is the larger cities. I love London and have friends there but I am very concerned about keeping my motorbike in city.

I've heard a few horror stories about leaving things alone for five minutes and returning to nothing.

I've got a yamaha fazer 600 2002 and I love it to bits. I secure it with a heavy duty cover, chain, disc lock and alarm lock too. When I park it up at work I just use the alarmed boss disc lock. It's very sensitive and goes off if you just touch the bike. I also sometimes use a lightweight cover to keep it covered too.

I'm gonna be living in Wood Green and working in Lambeth for the first few months at least. I'm bricking it about my pride and joy getting loaded into the back of some filthy scummer's van. I'm new to big bikes so my insurance is still fairly high, a claim might put it up very high.

I love motorcycles and have always owned one since I've been working, from a moped aged 17 to various 125's until I got my license. I don't want to get rid of my bike at all, I enjoy owning one and riding it and would like to keep it, but the prospect of taking into London scares me. I know I shouldn't be crying too much over the loss of 8 year old fazer, but it would really grate me to see it get knicked by some low-lifer.

New bike purchase

My CBR 600 FS2 was written off a couple a months ago after a collision and now, with spring around the corner :w00t:, I'm out to buy a new bike - only problem is that I can't decide which to go for...

Initially I had my heart set on a GSXR750 K6/K7 as I figured it would be a logical upgrade to my 600, but on the other hand I'm also quite keen on ZX6R's and R6's. I've been trying to work out a pros and cons list, but that didn't really work out so now I'm turning to you guys and girls for advice - what would you buy, and why?

Price range should preferably be somewhere between £4000-£5000

So who's washed their helmet this year?

Cleaning My Bike

Ok, Ive tried the Jetwash - It's grand for cleaning of loads of muck, but it doesn't seem to get rid of the greasy crap and dried on oil I have on my wheels and engine etc.

I've tried washing my bike, with a bucket and sponge but its a pain in the arse as I live in a block of flats with no outside tap so I have to trek inside and up 4 flights of stairs to refil the bucket :(

Any hints on better ways to clean my bike?

Help for Heroes

Hello all,

I am organising a charity collection for Help for Heroes throughout London Underground to take place on St Geroges Day and we are looking at recruiting some volunteers.

Basically we need people who are capable to shaking some buckets, speaking to the public and maybe even shouting out 'help for heroes' now and again to attract attention. We done this before and raised nearly £10,000 at one station and now have the option of having upto 12 stations - we just need the people to fill them up!

This will take place between 7am and 7pm on the Friday 23rd April. We do not expect you to turn up and be there for 12 hours but we ask anyone that is going to volunteer gives us atleast 2 hours commitment. After all the bikers pulling together and doing the Wooton Bassett ride the other day i thought it would be good to ask my fellow bikers if they are up for it.

If enough people reply to this thread we may possibly persuade the WSBK organisers, FG Sport to drop their fee to a more reasonable level. Then Brands can host the WSBK weekend again, without having to charge stupid prices.
We can get the 'jewel in the crown' of motorcycling back at the best circuit in the country.
The riders can return to their favourite circuit.
The fans would be a lot happier. (Well Londonbikers would be.)
We would get two rounds back in the UK as we should do.
And more importantly I can get my daughter off my back about it not being there.
In short we all win...... don't we? ;)

LB Support for Tania - Little Miss T

I'm gutted to have to post this but for those of you that don't know, Tania (Little Miss T on here and also LB's official sexiest female biker in 2007) who is a very dear frind to myself and many people on here was involved in a terrible accident on 11th August.

Whilst on her way to work, a car turning right accross the A4 close to Gilletts's corner stopped in her lane and left Tania with nowhere to go. The result is her spinal chord is damaged beyond repair and she is now paralysed from the chest down. I know as bikers we are always at some risk but she was a safe rider and certainly a lot less reckless than myself and many others who I've ridden with.

She has shown unbelievable strength and courage throughout this and is truly is an inspiration. She is currently in a specialist spinal hospital in Aylesbury and has started learning to use a wheelchair and rehabiliatation. It's going to be long and difficult journey for her and her loved ones so to try and ease some of the financial burden I would like to start a collection.

Any donations are of course greatly appreciated, whether they be to a nominated charity or directly to her and her family. If you prefer to donate directly to her and her family you can do so by giving to myself, Terry Moto or GSXR Ang at any bike meets or rideouts.

Bus Lane Tickets!!

hi folks,

am pee'd off. Have just received a bus lane ticket, whilst on my bike in West Hendon Broadway (A5). (The one going north after Cool Oak Lane)

It transpires that it is a Barnet Council one, rather than a TFL one.

How can you be expected to know which is which. I know that you should look for the bike picture on the sign, but there are still some TFL ones which don't have the signs updated.

Will give an appeal a go, but has anyone had a stroke of luck and got off these. Common sense does not prevail with these camera operators. (It was a real time camera on a post)

Grateful of thoughts.

I got two interviews this afternoon, both final round and I've not had nervousness like this since exam days. I'm trying to relax and calm down but the pressure I've put on myself is overwhelming at the minute. Gone out to look at my motorbike to ease the nerves.

The first interview is a panel with a workoholic manager, demanding trader and the person doing the role. I think once I am in the first few minutes and gauge how it's going I'll be able to settle down.

Any advice before? Came onto LB to get my mind off the interviews...

Going on that wootten bassett run yesterday got me to thinking. Seeing all the differing groups of riders arriving in large packs” obviously from a wide selection of different clubs and organisations around the country” I was jealous of the fact they were in large groups and we wasn’t.

So I’m starting to ask myself questions about londonbikers.com. LB comes across to me as a community divided in the sense that all LB members are off doing their own little thing with their preferred little groups, so with big events such as the wootten bassett rideout you’re left looking to see if you can spot another LB member.

This is not right surely, did we make a mistake and not organise ourselves accordingly? is their others that would have been proud to arrive together as londonbikers? And if so do we need leaders of these big events? Someone that can step in and pull all of us together as on big unit representing LB.

Or is the question really that I’ve joined the wrong thing and should continue looking for this unity?

Or it could be the case that I don’t get it and LB is fine.:)

New Jag XJ

I had the great pleasure to be invited to my local Jag dealer for the pre launch test drive of the new XJ which will be available from (I am told) mid May, and I thought you may be interested in my thoughts on the car after having spent about an hour behind the wheel.

Up close, the car is stunningly beautiful with some curvy lines and quite agressive front end. It is quite a bit taller than the current XJ and I suppose to some degree and from certain angles it could be mistaken for the current Mondeo.

Inside the cockpit wraps itself around you closeting you in leather (and the car I drove) carbon fibre malthough the more traditional wood options are also available. Multi positional electric seats as you would expect, keyless ignition and the knob that raises itself out of the centre console when you fire the engine up.

The first thing that struck me was the virtual display dashboard. Still conventional dials, but akin to something my daughter would see on her X Box. Nicer than say the French type of digital speedo, but something that would probably take me a while to get used to.

Automatic gearbox is slick and seamless through its 6 speed box, but I like the way that the paddle shifts can allow the car to be driven manually or hold the right paddle in for 2 seconds and it reverts to full automatic with each gear you are in displayed in the left hand clock on the dashboard.

I drove the 3.0 Diesel engined car, and the first thing that hit me was that it sounded nothing like a diesel. There was no traditional diesel clatter, in fact it sounded like a normal petrol engine, and inside there is no noise at all.

The car is electronically limited to 155 MPH (as are all models) and whilst the bigger petrol engines may be a tad quicker off the line and up to 60, to be honest the big diesel was so quick and responsive I think in real terms you would be hard pushed to notice the difference.

Ride is smooth with just the right balance between rigidity and body roll and it actually does not feel that big once on the move. I hustled it through a few quick corners and it stuck to the road like the preverbial limpet, but you can switch to dynamic mode which raises the revs and stiffens up the suspension a tad, although again I found standard setting quite OK.

The engine is smooth, I mean really smooth, and the slightest whiff of throttle catapults you forward at an alarming rate if that is your bag, but conversley at 30 MPH it would sit there quite happily and still be refined and effortless.

Brakes are as you would expect from Jaguar, top notch.

Reversing is made easier by the TV monitor which switches on as soon a you engage reverse and gives a clear picture along with sensor bars to help you gauge distances, you just have to make sure that you also keep a check on your door mirrors as it easy to forget that thre may be vehicles parked alongside in confined spaces. But being a hatchback with a high boot line, the TV camera (which are located discreetly in the rear light clusters) is certainly a useful tool.

My biggest gripe, if you can call it a gripe? The car has a twin panaromic sunroof which means that headroom is lost, and I could not get comfortable because at 6 feet 5 I had the seat as low as it would go and reclined the back of the seat as far as I dare, but I still not get 100% comfortable, and by the time I got back my back ached quite a bit. Apparently a few other people have made similar comments, and having compared the XJ with the XF, I have to say that if I was in the market for a new car right now, I would have to seriously consider the XF over the XJ for that very reason.

No one could tell me if they plan to build the car without a sunroof, but every car there had one, but if they get too many comments like that they may have to consider it anyway.

That apart, I have to say that it was a very refined and impressive car with handsome looks, and if, the lack of seat height was sorted, a car I would very seriously consider in the future, although I got back into my 09 X-Type and immidiately felt comfortable and at home.

If you do get the opportunity to test drive the car(s) and apparently the road show is travelling around the country, I would seriously recommend the experience, and I would be interested to hear others thoughts after they have tried it.

Ive got an image i want to put on my side panels but i dont wont it like a photo image i want the soldiers in it done in black and it will be going onto a white background. Is there anyone here that can do it? Thats if its even posible with the pic ive got. It is the best pic ive found so far with the sort of image i want

Last night I was late getting home, so I called into the local takeaway and picked up some dinner.

Got home, got out of the car, picked up my dinner, briefcase, documents and jacket meaning my hands were pretty full.

Shut the door of the car, wife let me in and we had our dinner and a relaxing evening.

This morning, I am getting ready to go out, went to pick up my car keys and couldn't find them. "Who has moved my keys?" I shouted.

I hunted high and low trying to think where I might have left them and then had a sudden but horrible thought.

Walked out to my car, and what do I find still in the ignition, my bloody keys :blush:

They had been in there all night complete with house keys and I had not given it a thought. Just dammed lucky my car was still there and no one had decided to have a field day in the house.

Proof indeed that I am a total Knob :blush:

Bike in Bay

It's strange that it's covered, but also strange that there are ground anchors in this bay, and it is not chained to one.
