I fail to see how the SHARP tests are a waste of time.

Yes, they could do with being a little more transparent in the way they award the stars, but the tests were set up as a way to show how well helmets performed above the EU test criteria.

Manufacturers don't make lids thicker in some areas to get them through the SHARP tests - they already do that for the EU test.

Arai openly admit making their shell thinner in some areas where *their* research tells them is typically unlikely to suffer an impact.

Strangely they only complained about the SHARP tests once the results were announced - previously there had been no mention of flawed testing methods.

It is your time to waste by taking the SHARP findings seriously, and your life you risk if you choose to by a lesser helmet due to their results.

Your Condor has to be the best entry level lid on the market only matched by the Shoei Raid 2

I have the carbon-fibre version of the HJC FS-10, really pleased with it. The carbon one hasn't been Sharp-tested yet, but I don't really care, it fits, it's quietish, it doesn't mist up and it has an internal sun visor (I love them too!). The golden rule for all helmets, try one and see.

ive had 3 or 4 hjc lids, they are good for the money, but i much prefer my arai for comfort and thats enough for me.

The SHARP tests are a waste of time, money and effort, they promised a lot but the goverment and there buget issues ment they caused more problems than they solved.

The manufacturers are not to blame, for the current mess the lid industry is in.

Go for a HJC DRACO you get a free tinted visor, fully removable liner, top quality comfort if it fits right, its a good quality lid.

Sharp tests are a load of poo, some manufacturers have been known to add extra thickness on the area where the helmet is tested and so giving a false result. As long as you have a well fitted helmet from a good maker then you can't go wrong.

Just read an article saying that carbon fiber is one of the best materials to use for helmets.

About time I change my 4/5 year old CL14, but I definitely want another HJC helmet. There must be something strange with my headshape but all of theirs fit me beautifully and far better than the likes of Shoei/Arai.

Question is I quite fancy the internal sun visor idea, but that'll mean an IS16 (£120) or FS10 (£130) but these only get 2* and 3* ratings in the Sharp test, whereas the "better" FG15 (£125) and HQ1 (£160) get 4* & 5* but don't have this function.

So given I'd be daft to ignore the main reason for having a helmet do I get an HQ1, or are the Sharp ratings not foolproof and overrated (as I've seen some negative press).

Appreciate any thoughts - Thanks :)
