Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knew of any good mechanics in South London. I am in Stockwell.

I don't know much about bikes. I bought a kawasaki ninja, it was running fine, but lately It's really struggling to start. I put the choke on and it won't start. If I keep trying to start it, the battery goes dead. Any advice?

Just got my '97 Fireblade, well chuffed with it!

I have noticed a faint ticking noise on, er, tickover.

It doesn't sound like anything mechanical and I guess it might just be a vibration but could it be a leaking exhaust?!

Its a really clean, standard 27k miles bike with full service history, hopefully I'm just being paranoid!

Hi to everyone in the LB community.

I'm taking my bike test in two weeks time and if i pass (fingers crossed) I'm thinking about getting the Honda cbr600rr, a few people i have spoken to have said this bike would be too much for me as a first bike being a new rider.

Just wondered what bikers on this site thought, i would appreciate any feedback as i really want to get this bike.

Ok I've been off bikes for a year but in the past few weeks, back on two wheels it seems like there's been a shift in the attitude of other bikers towards me!

When I had my 7R Ninja no one seemed to bother me, I was never cut-up by other bikes and rarely overtaken.
Since I've been riding the Blade however, I seem to get people screaming past me, riding right up my arse and generally bothering me on my daily ride to work. Am I just being paranoid? It's not even a modern 'blade!
Maybe nobody wanted to get near the Ninja before in case it fell over and killed them and started an earthquake...
Maybe it's the Third Reich Leathers I wear...

Do any other Fireblade riders feel the same?

Sport bike for commuting?

I commute from Oxford to London every day on a Fazer but have an urge to change my bike to R6 or R1. What are your thoughts about the suitability of supersports bikes for regular commuting? Would they be heavy on the wrists, especially in slow traffic/filtering, is the longish-term comfort compromised (i don't mean that hot water in jacuzzi runs out, I mean that my bum doesn't get extremely numb when cruising for 1hr on a m-way), is the slow-traffic mobility impaired, etc?

In short, do you think it is feasible to get a supersports and use it (also) for a regular 60mi commute?

Thinking of buying a low miles CBR600 f-s '95 as a commuter bike.

Seems like a reasonable deal as the bike is really clean, but wondered what are the common issues with this bike?

Any advice appreciated on what potential problems to look for before I buy the bike.

Duel Headlight Conversion

Now that the nights have drawn in i'm not liking the lack of visibility that I get from my Ninja being that low beam is only on one headlight. I've decided to do a dual headlight conversion to enable me to use both headlights for low and full beam and install some brighter bulbs.

Just thought I'd run it by you first to see if anyone else has had any previous experience.

PS I've already bought some Philips H4 bulbs and the relay.

[B]CBF125[/B] is also launched by Honda in European market to expand its product portfolio in 125 cc segment. After the launch of YZF-R125, Honda's best selling bike CBR125 lost its leadership in UK's 125 cc segment. This might be a move by the company to give a competition to R125 and other small displacement bikes (<33 bhp). The rumoured price floating on internet is between £1770-£2600 which is pretty good. The main difference between Indian and European version is that the later one has Fuel Injection. Rest most of it remains same.

Can for GSXR 750 K4?

I know this is a bit of generalist question, but wondered if anybody had some experience on it, plus to some extent the sourcing if I don't get it off eBay.

Am replacing the stock can on my Gixer as big, ugly and bulky. Looking for something probably at the louder end of the scale as much of my riding is done on the commute in heavy traffic. However not quite Racefit levels of loudness - any good suggestions?

Think Yoshi would be the obvious choice it being a Suzuki - but any others good for that bike? Probably no need as just a can, but want to avoid mapping for now if poss.

GSXR 1000 vs 750 vs 600

After my 1000 got hit I put down a deposit on the new 1000K7 almost immediately, but in the meantime got thinking about whether I really want/need a 1000 again. Then yesterday I took Ness's new 600 out for a spin on a couple of my local racetra... errr, roads. Even though the bike is still being run in (i.e. kept it below certain revs) it was a LOT more fun than my 1000 with suspension sorted for my weight. I never thought the difference in handling could be that much between the two - I reckon that if I had to ride the two back to back through the Pirbright Bends, I would be significantly quicker on the 600 (and safer!). Part of the reason for this is how quickly it turns, but I also loved being able to wind the throttle on with the bike still banked right over and not have to worry about getting big air. I'm starting to (finally) understand that the 1000 is actually too much for the road - can't believe I just wrote that!

I haven't gone and done all the research yet, but I've believe that the 600 and 750 have exactly the same chassis, and that the 600 has a sleeved down 750 motor... Not sure though. Anyway, if the 750 handles like the 600 but has just a little more grunt low down, that is going to be my next bike! Unless Suzuki have chopped 5 more kilos off the 1000... no, no, no, no, I want a 750!

well if all goes wel..january should see me fully licensed and ready to go....and so ive been looking at potential 1st bikes and the zxr400 seems to suit my needs the most....not too powerfull (no experience prior to test adn course), cheap on insurance, sports bike shape etc etc but just wanted to know what u guys thought of it? anyone owned one? also becuase they are quite an old bike is it a case of theres a lot of dogs out there so stay away, or are there lil pots of gold to be found as it were...

also, if not the zxr 400 what other bikes would u recomend?

Dynojet with Racefit Mega on GSXR K5

Hey you all,

I'm a little down as i've just had my Gixer dynojeted after fitting a racefit exhaust only to find that it's knocking out only 156hp . The guy at Banjax where i had it done was a little surprised saying that all the other K5's he's done have been in the 160's + He put it down to the pipe! That or the way i ran it in from new!

What are you guys with racefits putting out on a K5 or similar? In fact what is the standard HP on a K5?

To be honest i'm not that annoyed as it now runs sweet as a nut and the can sounds and looks super sexy! What's another couple of horses when you've got a gorgeous GSXR to play with...

I've off to Germany to ride the nurburgring for the first time this weekend with my bro, he's taking his Lotus Elise. If anyone is riding over this bank holiday and wants to show me around the track i'd be happy to hear from you!

Brake/Clutch Levers

Afternoon all,

Had a spill last week and need to replace my brake lever, thinking of taking the opportunity to get something better i.e. shorty but not sure i can justify the money for Pazzo's. CMC Bikes has the Pazzo clutch and brake lever set for £130 otherwise £65 each, or i can just get a stock lever off ebay for £12. I guess it makes sense to get a set as otherwise the bike will look weird with a standard and a racing lever??

Anyone got any comments before i decide? hoping to get her back together this weekend as all the fairing should be delivered tomorrow :)

'08 limited edition CBR6 RR - American paint job!!

Just popped into the Honda dealer in Tucson, Arizona today and guess what I found... A beautiful limited edition CBR6 RR in matt black.

Sadly the UK market isn't getting this bike (apparently) and there are only going to be 5 sold (yeah right, I'm sure they will do more when they see how quickly these ones sell).

The standard bike is up for $9400 which would still leave you enough money to ship it to the UK. The downside would be the fact that it is a grey bike and you wouldn't get a warranty with it :(

I've been offered a 97 Kawasaki ZX9-r B4. 18000 on the clock Full History.. looked after all it's life 2 owners straight swap for my 54'plate Husqvarna SM610s..

Grimbusa decided (probably against his better judgement :D ) to lend me his bike for an afternoon :cool: I've been a fan of the busa engine in cars for a few years and had mine for 4 years but never ridden the bike.

What a machine :D Seriously, there is so much mid range torque it could easily get away with a 4 speed gearbox. The acceleration in 2nd and 3rd is simply awesome, By the time you've read the speedo it's moved +40 :P It's more deceptive than the ZX10, it feels so composed and stable and it never seems to stop accelerating hard, even approaching a speedo reading that's pushing towards jail time it just carries on :w00t::P

The handlng was also not what I expeected. Having an RF900 I thought it would be similar to that, not bad for a big bike but not exactly exciting. It's actually very close to the handling of my K4 750, it feels like a sportsbike and turns like one, much better than the ZZR1400 I tried earlier this year - I could feel the two ends of that turning in a bend as if they were parts of seperate bikes but the busa just tipped in and went round, no drama and I didn't even need to push it that hard. The K4 is a bit lighter but feels very similar to the busa.

Quite an experience, really puts the busa in a new light, even though they are a few years old it's still a bike I could see myself owning and enjoying riding. Thanks Graham :)

I currently have a set of 180 BRIDGESTONE BT014 on my 06 1000RR i enjoy the longevity of the tyre but now my riding has come on a bit i am looking for a slighty stickier tyre, i am going to france in 4 weeks and will def need the tyres prior to going and ideas out there ?
i am a bit of a fair weather rider so to be honest not to worried about an awesome wet tyre HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A&R race baffles

Has anyone fitted A&R race baffles to their bike?

I have just put a pair on my 08 R1 and I think they are just too noisy!

Also has anyone experienced fuelling problems at mid revs because of this.

I fitted mine together with a cat bypass pipe and a k&n filter and the bike was just bogging down off the line and felt like it was starving.

I replaced the stock air-filter and it seems to have improved, but at about 40 mph in 4th or 5th it seems to be almost miss-firing?

Any help?

I know i probably need a power commander now, but should it be behaving like this?

As some of you may know I've just changed my oil... Twice

My R6 has just reached 5,200 miles and I'm wondering if I should be looking at changing the air filter too?

The brake pads and possibley the spark plugs?

If so what air filter, pads and plugs do you rate and recomend changing to?

I know that soon the bike will be going in for it's first big service ...so should I bother?

Suspension setup on CBR600F

Hi all,

I've recently taken delivery of a CBR600F and I'm looking for some help with the suspension setup.

I'm going to start by setting everything back to the default settings and starting from there, but at the moment, the bike is very jumpy at the back.

My big problem is that I often carry a pillion. Can anyone advise the best settings so that the bike will respond well when riding solo, but also be acceptable when carrying a pillion ?

Also, does anyone know of a decent Honda shop that could supply and fit a new rear shock in the near future?

I dont know much about ZX9's he thinks its the fuel pump, do they turn on (whirring sound) when ignition is turned on?

A strange scooter experience....

Got given a Yamaha 'T-Max 500' this morning by the garage to get into work, as my bike wasn't ready - and what an extraordinary device it was...

I was interested to ride one as those who have them seem to rave about them, but it was as bad as I expected. Despite purporting to be a 500 it was slow, with crude suspension, limited clearance and brakes that don't really do anything. It was vaguely amusing doing an indicated 90 on the motorway on an overgrown Vespa, albeit with a curious reverse buffeting sensation in place caused by the massive screen. Wasn't even narrow enough to get through traffic properly at the lights.

So I was left thinking whats the point? Granted they are incredibly easy to use around town which is probably enought for some, but that was about the only advantage I could see. Unless of course you're forced to use one due to mobility issues or similar - then fair play.

The other thing I noticed is that I always seem to get let through, or made space for, by other bikes on the R1 without prompting - not so the scooter, every bike I came across was staying put!

Hello there, I am moving to the UK in November from the states and am bringing my 2007 ZX10R. I was wondering what type of things are inspected every year/what is required for the bike. Any inputs would be greatly appreciated. Currently the bike just has a set of slip ons and a fender eliminator and no reflectors up front.
