| There's been a spate of accidents on here in the past few days, most due to slippery roads.
Is it like this every year, or is this an anomaly?
Why are the roads so slippery? Is it because they've been gritted during the really cold snaps, but we haven't had rain to wash the gunk away as its warmed up?
Is there anything that can be done, apart from either riding mega-carefully or not going out on two wheels at all?

| Unfortunatley I dont think there has been enough rain to wash the rubbish away, hence the greasyness... I just ride very very cautiously as I dont have the 4-wheeled option.

| | It is like this every year - as suggested, mushed up leaves, a bit of diesel plus rubber residue glued together with the sugar they use to grit the roads provides a very nasty substance. I ride very carfully this time of year, but still had my front wheel step out when turning at the end of Westminster Bridge. Fortunatly it was controllable. You could write to the council concerned and your MP complaining that the materials now added to winter grit make riding motorcycles hazardaous once the weather starts to warm up. BTW, I have even had the wheels lock up on the car before now in these conditions.

| Yep, it's always been this bad - I had a fairly scary front end slide last night on some damp overbanding as I joined the M4..

| I'll take it extra easy, then - don't want another spill!
Thanks!
It's worth writing to the council, too - I'll do that. If enough people moan, they've got to do something about it.

| Been made redundant a few weeks ago, so I try to get out of the house in the afternoon.
I went for a walk yesterday and the pavements and the roads where super slippery. The worse I have seen them in a long time. I almost slipped on my a*se a couple of times.
I know around my area (north london)they have been laying down the salt and with it being so damp has not helped at all.
Keep it up-right!

| The amount of decepretion of a vehicle through being corroded with salt and the extra amount of accidents and lateness at work with 5 - 25mph speeds (estimate), forcing non congesting bikes with riders into cars would easily outweigh (benefits) the cost of road-sweeping, all of which have road-washing sprayers on the front of their trucks. We need a higher standard for the biking community in this country.
