| Ok, I got something in my eye, sorted that out only to find lights change, braked and skidded about a bikes length over the line, camera behind me, Have no idea if it flashed or not, but I am a wee bit worried to say the least, if it does me then I stand to lose my license, and I dont want that. Obviously.
So, being a bit unsure of how the bloomin hec these types of cameras work, I googled it and asked some friends and there are many stories and myths as to how they work. So I guess I am just asking LB (coz I know that you are an insightful lot), how do these things actually work? And do you reckon I will be get the train to work again coz I lost me license.

| you should be fine, they dont actually take the pic until ur in-fringing traffic, i.e a good few few meters out. or so i've ben told

| Often there's not enough metal in bikes to trigger the loops either, but don't bank on it.

| if, as you've stated, you were only a bike length over the stop line you'll be fine, even if it did take two photos of you, you wouldn't be travelling anywhere... and as stated most raffic light cameras work on induction looping in the road, which bikes don't normally activate. Apparently. But you didn't hear it from me, it's just a rumour I'm passing on.

| I know in the past if I think to myself I am not sure if that camera when off or no, it didn't. If it flashes you will know about it, they are pretty obvious. Don't worry about it, or try not to at least. Its not the sort of offence that you can loose your licence for, unless you're already on 11 points...

| | If you were only a bit over the line the the photo would show this. I suppose you could argue that it was due to the conditions. Also as said above if it did flash you would have noticed it. Especially on a grey day like this. The flash is very bright. |

I can vouch on that as I was going too fast to stop and just carried on, crossed the light after it changed to Red and made sure I was looking behind me no flash. I can also be 100% that the camera was working as I have this radar detector and it can tell if cameras send a signal or not, this camera is always on
I was doing that route on a daily basis but I never tried testing it again, that was one time as I couldn't stop. Jumping red lights is not something I see as safe, you never know when the guy from other side decides to go, some of them can see your light and they start moving as you get the amber... |

| | Wherever red light cameras are positioned you will see two large rectangular blocks have been cut into the road surface. They have induction loops that register the metal in a vehicle. One is usually just past the white line, and the second is about two metres further onto the junction. The camera will be triggered by the induction loops picking up a vehicle moving from one loop to the other two seconds or more after the light is red. To make a prosecution stick they would need to show you were moving across the junction so will take the first picture as you crossed the second induction loop, and a second picture a second later to show how fast you were moving. As has been suggested, the induction loops will not be triggered by most bikes.
