I think it all depends where you are riding and what speeds. In my opinion its possible to get completely anal on this point and to totally kit out to jump on the bike and go to the shop end of the road at 25mph is over the top. Yes, you can get knocked off of course but you could also on my pushbike at that speed and you wouldnt be wearing a leather race suit for that. Motorcycling comes with a fair degree of risk and its about trying to manage that risk sensibly.

| | I always, always wear my armoured leathers, gloves and currently knee-high armoured trailboots. Like you I live in central London and I use my bike every day. I take a change of clothing with me either in the topbox or in a small rucksack that goes on the rear seat under a cargo net. I have to dress smartly for work, but it only takes a couple of minutes to change and tidy up - and I'm a girl. So, if I can do it ... It's all part and parcel of living with a bike. Oh, and if I'm planning on drinking, I get a cab or public transport. How much risk you want to take with your own skin is up to you. I've no intention of going through the agony of abraded flesh just because I couldn't be bothered to dress properly. |
