Doctor Jekyll and Mr Hyde - Ducati Monster 1100S Roadtest
03 December 2009 | 2 Comments
First introduced in 1993, the Ducati Monster continues to be the most popular selling model in the Ducati range. My review bike, the Monster 1100S is bang on current yet ostensibly retaining the look of the original Monster which first rolled out of the factory just over a decade and a half ago; and consequently is yet another example of an iconic time-proof design from the Italian marquee.

A Tale of Three Lids
23 November 2009 | 8 Comments
Helmets are always a bit of an enigma to buy as their main role is one you can’t judge particularly well when you buy. I’ve recently gone through the process myself and now Londonbikers.com has been offered the chance to review a couple of additional lids so I will give you my thoughts on them.

BSB 2009 Review DVD
17 November 2009 | 2 Comments
When I was asked if I would like to review this seasons BSB DVD I jumped at the chance. Being a huge fan of anything motorsport related especially the 2 wheeled variety I was definitely looking forward to it. So I enrolled a friend along to share in the enjoyment. The only problem we found was finding the 5 hours needed to watch the whole thing!!

Scottoiler - A Maintenance Free Chain?
06 November 2009
It wasn't until I got my first manual bike that I had even considered any form of bike maintenance other than washing it. When warmer weather came, I took pride in cleaning and maintenance of my beloved 125; this included lubricating the drive chain which I quickly became accustomed to doing regularly. I had heard of the Scottoiler automatic lubrication system, but had considered that it wasn't for me.

Suzuki’s SFV650 Gladius: Under Review
30 October 2009 | 9 Comments
“Gladius”: the Latin word for “Sword”. Specifically the shorter, and naturally more handy version of the traditional long swords. It’s an interesting choice of name from Suzuki, uniting Roman and Samurai inferences with word associations including “thrusting” “sharp” “pointed” and “rapier-like” in the global battle for motorcyclists’ hearts…

Zero S - Two Wheeled Commuting of the Future?
25 July 2009
At it's very least the Zero S is motorcycling on the cutting edge of bike technology. Depending on what you want from a bike of course, the technology has a way to go, but if we look at past innovations that are now taken for granted, it is only a matter of time until what is currently being heralded as new and exciting becomes common place. Let's take a preview at the Zero S...

Hein Gericke Tricky III Textile Suit Review
15 July 2009 | 2 Comments
All weather suits? No thank you. Or at least that’s what I’ve thought for many years since my last expensive and very disappointing time with a 'top of the line' suit from a leading Italian brand (begins with 'D') and frankly I’d become a little set in my ways - thinking a leather suit with a waterproof over-suit in the bike storage would be all I’d need.

BMW F 800 R - The Future Is Bright
05 June 2009 | 6 Comments
The future is bright for BMW at the moment. Not just bright as in the retina-burning orange paint adorning the F800R that I’m currently riding, but bright as in BMW now sell more than 100,000 bikes a year and around 5500 of those are in the UK per annum.

Zuru Link Straps - The New Bungee?
28 April 2009
My first thought when I saw these straps was "they look interesting but I'm not to sure about that colour", then on further inspection it was clear a fair bit of thought had gone into producing an innovative alternative form of tie-down straps. Could they replace the ubiquitous bungee strap? Looking eye-catching and promising no more painful twanging or scratched panels sounds good, but how well they actually work is the most important thing.

The Rev'It! Ladies Pearl Textile Jacket
26 April 2009 | 1 Comment
There was a time when as a woman if you wanted biking gear you ended up getting mens clothes in small sizes. Thankfully those days are long gone and we live in a world where bike clothing manufacturers have realised that women deserve good quality kit just as much as the boys do. It’s about time.

The Maxijak Wheel Lift
01 April 2009 | 1 Comment
Ok I admit it, I like toys. To those that know me well this will come as no surprise, so the chance to try out the Maxijak wheel lift was right up my street.

Testing The New Dunlop Qualifier II Tyre
25 March 2009
Make no mistake, with sportsbikes still popular on the new and used market, Dunlop’s new sports tyre is going for a big slice of the action.

BMW K1300 Series Launch - The 'Sexy' One!
29 January 2009 | 2 Comments
BMW’s are getting sexier than ever. Once BMW motorcycles were at odds with the image conjured up by their cars: BMW motors represented class, money, power, performance and style, but BMW bikes represented…well, old people, coppers and dull IAM riders. The arrival of the BMW R1100S ‘sports bike’ changed things back in 1999, and later this year the arrival of the S1000RR will mark the completion of the journey from staid, stoic and sensible, to sexy, saucy and sensational. In the meantime we have these – the updated K1300R, and S, as well as the latest GT. But are they any good?

Simon Gandolfi’s Old Man on a Bike
08 December 2008 | 1 Comment
What defines a journey, an adventure? What characteristics would separate a journey from a mere trip? Perhaps a journey takes you somewhere different, somewhere out of the norm. Maybe it is the distance or time statistics that differentiate a journey from a trip. A journey may be judged to be as such not only by the physicality’s of it, but also by the capabilities (assumed or real) of the person undertaking it. A fit and healthy 30yr old may (indeed should) have a different perspective on riding across the UK than perhaps a pensioner on a 125cc would.

Book Review – Into Africa
11 May 2008
Have you ever had the urge to give up your job and go traveling for a year on a motorbike which you have only just learnt to ride? Sam Manicom did, he had invested heavily into his career, the eternal rat race to get to the top of the pile. When it was evident that the top job was not going to be he decided to do a trip down Africa instead.

Mean 'N’ Moody Rocketship Cruiser
30 April 2008 | 2 Comments
The 2008 Harley-Davidson Night Rod is a special edition of its drag race inspired V-Rod machine, with some extra blingy bits – moody black paintwork, red coachline on the wheels, restyled saddle etc. All well and good but it’s the 121bhp, fuel injected, 1130cc V-Twin motor that makes this bike a real kick-ass slice of Americana to ride. The Night Rod is ferociously quick off the line, and there’s no shortage of grip from the 240mm wide Dunlop rear tyre.

The Nolan X-LITE X801RR Helmet
17 March 2008 | 2 Comments
Lurking in the shadows of the familiar names of Arai and Shoei, Nolan X-lite has quietly protected the heads of both the 250GP and MotoGP world champions. X-lite have been producing high quality and innovative helmets for some time, while working in the retail end of the industry I became aware of the X-lite X901. I don’t think we sold one, this wasn’t because it is a bad helmet, it is however slightly odd looking thanks to its innovative aerodynamic design. Although the X901 was exceptionally stable at speed and light we all tend to stick to what we know and so the big two continued to dominate.

The Ducati 1098 R - Breaking The Litre Limit
09 March 2008
The lightest, most powerful twin-cylinder bike ever and true competition-level traction control system supplied as standard for maximum track performance. The 1098 R is the ultimate Superbike. The most advanced, most powerful twin-cylinder motorcycle ever built, with the highest torque-to-weight ratio in the sport bike category. It is the product of a team of designers and engineers focussed on one objective only – to win.

Kawasaki’s 2008 Supersport Flagship ZX-10R
09 March 2008
For the 2008 Ninja ZX-10R, Kawasaki engineers wanted a highly communicative package that would enable the two-way dialog between rider and machine that professional racers require to ride at the highest level. A chassis that would deliver a high level of feedback while being highly responsive to rider input - and all this in stock form. A tall order. But, having worked on every litre- and mid-class supersport model since the 2003 Ninja ZX-6R/6RR, not to mention their direct involvement with Kawasaki’s factory superbike efforts, one the engineers were in a position to deliver.

The New 2008 CBR1000RR Fireblade
06 March 2008 | 2 Comments
Sharper looks, stronger performance and astoundingly responsive control. From its compact new proportions to its breathtaking response to every rider input, everything about the new 2008 CBR1000RR Fireblade stakes out a new standard in motorcycle performance and design aesthetics that will stand as a milestone in the history of litre-class Super Sports development, much as the original CBR900RR did when it fired the first shot in the high-performance revolution sixteen years ago. A winner both on the street and on the track, the CBR900RR FireBlade set a blazing standard for big bike performance for an entire generation to come.
