The Road to Patagonia - Part 1
14 January 2010
A bit like the opening scenes of a classic feature, the characters of the story gradually get to know each other, asking similar questions, and nervously wondering what lies ahead. The cast of this particular road movie has gathered in Santiago, Chile for a Globebusters motorcycle tour of Patagonia. Together we’re a bunch of random bikers of varying ages and skills, thrown together by the desire to ride through Patagonia, one of the most beautiful and remote areas of the planet. Our ride will take us south through Chile and Argentina, along the beautiful Careterra Austral, and the infamous and treacherous Ruta 40. We'll get to Tierra del Fuego and Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world, before returning north to Buenos Aires.

29 September 2009
“Still up for the pillion ride with James?” the woman from Bennetts Insurance asked as I put the tyre warmers back onto my bike. “Yes!” was the slightly over enthusiastic reply - what else could it have been? After all, how many times do you get presented with the opportunity to get a pillion ride with a MotoGP rider around one of England’s best racetracks?

Adventure Motorcycling for Dummies: Preparation and Bike Modifications
10 June 2009
You’ve read The Motorcycle Diaries and you’ve watched The Long Way Round, you’ve had it with your job and dream of jacking it all in to ride off into the sunset. Well you wouldn’t be the first person to fantasise of life aboard your steel horse travelling across a distant continent, but of course it’s easy to make that leap if you’re a Hollywood film star or a Cuban revolutionary. Right?

Ace Cafe's Overland Adventure Tour Bike Day 8th Feb 2009
10 February 2009
The day looked promising from the outset, blue sky and with a temperature above freezing so I decided not to wuss out in the car but to take the 7 for a run out. When I got there I saw a sea of large imposing bikes, more aluminium panniers than surely is healthy, and immediately realised that of course average buyer of a GS this or KTM that isn’t going to be put off by the weather.

California Superbike School - Level 1, The Day I Learnt How to Ride Properly!
24 October 2008
I have always fancied myself a bit of a girl racer at heart, and once I’d got a couple of years riding experience behind me, I got myself a proper sports bike in the shape of a 1998 Kevin Schwantz, Lucky Strike Suzuki GSX-R 750 SRAD back in 2002. I’d always had the longing to get out on track to see what I could learn about myself and the bike. I learnt that I could go pretty fast, take corners reasonably well, and that I could crash in a very spectacular manner, the only way I could get my knee down!

A KTM Off-Road Experience
14 March 2008
I had been looking into doing an off-road course for some time and had spend loads of time reading up on various schools before choosing the right one for me. The Ady Smith School sounded like a really great one to try, so I booked myself into do the course before Christmas. Ady Smith has been riding off road bikes since he was 10 and has enjoyed a glittering career spanning many years and winning many titles including the British Enduro Championship in many different classes, as well as the British National Supermoto Champion in 2001 and 2003. From what I could see, doing this course would allow me to gain from a wealth of experience, it also sounded like a great way to spend a weekend.

King Of The Road – An Australian Harley Experience
05 February 2008
Feeling deflated as I contemplated my stupidity, I called around all the car hire companies in Melbourne, Australia looking for a fun car to rent for a road trip along the Great Ocean Road. Even that wasn’t working out because I wanted a convertible, and of course everything over there is air conditioned so very few convertibles were available. Ok, the reason for my discontent? Well I was here in Melbourne just a couple of hours drive from Philip Island where they were running track days that week! I’d known this for months, yet chose to leave it until the last minute and now there was no places left. Being on the waiting list for the last few days was to no avail, and my consolation was going to have to be a PT Cruiser convertible instead.

Chasing the Black
29 October 2007
It was a tip off from a friend of a friend, which gave me the breakthrough I was looking for. I have been searching unsuccessfully for some time now for the perfect road-trip and, after quite a few previous trips to Croatia for work; I thought I might be onto something. Normally I’d settle for a car or catch the bus, but a random meeting at a mates wedding, hooked me up with a bike shop in Zadar where they had real bikes available for hire and not just 50cc & 125cc scooters.

Flatout's Day With Virgin Media Optoma Loans Yamaha
25 May 2007
The year was 1976, the month was November and the date was the 9th; the birthday was Flatout's... Thirty years on and a party was thrown to celebrate. The guests arrived at the venue, as did half of londonbikers.com armed with a gift contributed by members past and present. The gift, a VIP day with the Virgin Media Optoma Loans Yamaha BSB race team... So, I booked the day Sunday the 20th at Snetterton and accompanied by my gorgeous fair maiden we made our way to the travel lodge in Cringleford some 16 miles away to avoid a long drive and an early start in the morning.
